Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Philips FC6162 Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (69-2008-009-202)
This is a 12V 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Philips FC6162 and FC6162/02 cordless handheld vacuum cleaner. It replaces OEM part number 69-2008-009-202. The cell pack matches the original voltage, connector, and physical dimensions of the factory battery.
- FC6162 and FC6162/02 compatibility: Both variants run the same 12V motor rail with the same connector and cell housing. The BMS expects a Ni-MH cell pack at this voltage — swapping in a different chemistry or voltage causes the charger to reject the pack entirely.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and load discharge on a test rig matching the FC6162 motor draw. The BMS completed charge termination correctly and held voltage above the cutoff threshold under sustained suction load.
- Dock charging behaviour on the FC6162: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock indefinitely. The FC6162 charger applies a trickle current when docked and full — continuous trickle charge accelerates cell degradation in Ni-MH packs. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
Ni-MH cells under sustained motor load can sag in voltage before the battery gauge registers a problem. On the FC6162, a partially blocked filter forces the motor to draw more current to maintain airflow — this amplifies voltage sag and causes the motor to slow down visibly. The battery itself may still have capacity remaining, but sustained overcurrent pulls the pack below the motor's effective operating voltage. Clear the filter first; if suction recovers immediately, the cell pack is not the fault.
Motor cutting out mid-use and recovering after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When the FC6162 motor encounters a blockage or heavily restricted airflow, current draw spikes past the BMS threshold and the pack shuts the circuit. After a short rest the BMS resets and the vacuum powers on again. Clearing the filter and checking the nozzle for blockages resolves most cases — if the motor trips immediately on a clean filter, the cell pack has degraded and can no longer deliver the required burst current. Replace the pack if trips continue after cleaning.

Frequently Asked Questions
My FC6162 loses suction halfway through cleaning but the battery light still shows full — what's happening?
This is voltage sag under motor load, not a dead charge. The Ni-MH pack can still hold energy but drops below the motor's effective operating voltage when the filter restricts airflow and forces higher current draw. Clean the filter first — if suction returns to normal immediately, the filter was the cause. If the problem persists on a clean filter, the cell pack has degraded and can no longer sustain the required voltage under load.
The FC6162 cuts out suddenly while running and turns back on a minute later — is the battery faulty?
That behaviour is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a battery failure by default. A blockage in the nozzle or a clogged filter causes the motor to spike well past its rated current draw, which triggers the BMS to cut the circuit. After the pack cools briefly, the BMS resets and the vacuum runs again. Check the filter and nozzle for any obstruction first; if the cutout happens on a fully clear vacuum, the cell pack can no longer deliver adequate burst current and needs replacing.
The new replacement battery on my FC6162 fades noticeably faster than the original did when it was new — what causes that?
Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of accelerated capacity fade in Ni-MH packs. The FC6162 charger continues to push trickle current into a full pack while docked — over weeks this degrades cell capacity faster than normal charge cycles would. Charge the new pack fully and remove it from the dock rather than leaving it connected permanently. Following this pattern from the start preserves cell capacity significantly longer than dock-charging continuously.
