Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ABB AC400 Systems — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (3BSC760015R1)

This is a 12V 3600mAh Ni-MH backup battery for the ABB AC400 PLC system. It fits AC400 and AC400 Systems controllers. The battery holds SRAM program memory and keeps the real-time clock running during mains power loss.

  • AC400 platform compatibility: ABB AC400 controllers route backup power through a single cell bay on a shared 12V rail. All AC400 variants using part number 3BSC760015R1 or SB522V1 draw from this same rail, so one cell covers the full platform without connector or BMS mismatch.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through float charge and simulated mains dropout. The BMS held SRAM retention voltage above the AC400 cutoff threshold and recovered to float charge without fault flags on restore.
  • Hot-swap procedure on the AC400: Never remove this battery while the PLC is powered off. Always swap the cell with the controller in RUN mode and mains power present. Removing the cell while the PLC is off clears SRAM — the full program must then be reloaded from a programming device before the controller will run.

AC400 battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

The AC400 does not automatically clear a battery alarm once a new cell is fitted. The alarm latches in the controller's diagnostic register and stays active until it is manually acknowledged through the programming software. Connect via the programming tool, navigate to the system diagnostics or alarm log, and reset the battery fault flag. The alarm clears immediately — no controller restart needed.

New cell reading lower than 12V on the AC400 status display

Ni-MH cells ship at a reduced storage voltage — typically 10.5V to 11V — to slow self-discharge during transit. The AC400 float charger brings the cell up to full voltage within a few hours of installation. If the display still reads below 11V after 24 hours on a powered controller, check that the cell connector is fully seated and the controller is not in a low-power standby mode that suspends charging. A correctly installed cell should read at or above 12V within one charge cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

The AC400 lost its program after we swapped the battery — what happened and how do we recover?

The SRAM on the AC400 loses its contents the moment backup voltage drops, which happens instantly when the battery is removed from a powered-off controller. The program is gone — it cannot be recovered from the controller itself. Reload the last saved project from your programming device, verify the real-time clock is set correctly, and confirm the controller returns to RUN mode without residual fault flags. Going forward, always swap the cell while the PLC is powered and in RUN mode.

The AC400 battery alarm came back within a few months of fitting a new cell — why is it depleting so fast?

Ni-MH self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above ambient. If the AC400 enclosure runs warm — common in dense panel builds — a cell that would last two years in a 25°C cabinet may need replacement in under a year. Check the enclosure temperature against ABB's recommended operating range for the AC400. Adding ventilation or a small enclosure fan is usually enough to bring the depletion rate back to the expected maintenance interval.

The real-time clock on the AC400 is showing the wrong date and time after battery replacement — how do we fix it?

The RTC loses its count whenever the backup cell voltage drops to zero, which happens if the old cell was fully depleted before removal or if the swap was done with the PLC off. The controller does not auto-sync the clock — it must be set manually. Connect to the AC400 via the programming software, locate the RTC configuration under system settings, and enter the correct date and time. Confirm the new cell is on float charge so the clock retains the setting through the next power cycle.
