The OS reads a percentage mapped to the old cell's discharge profile, so the displayed figure and the real cell voltage fall out of sync. Under full CPU plus display load, the cell hits its minimum voltage threshold before the gauge reaches 0% — and the laptop cuts out. Complete two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles at normal use load, then charge uninterrupted to 100% each time. After calibration, shutdown at 10.8V aligns with the displayed 0%.

Why does Windows show the Acer Aspire 4710Z battery as "0% available (plugged in, not charging)" right after I installed the new cell?

The fuel gauge IC is reading EEPROM data written by the old cell, so it doesn't recognise the new cell's state of charge. Plug the charger in and leave it connected without interruption for a full charge cycle — the IC needs a complete charge sweep to initialise against the new chemistry. If the indicator stays at 0% after a full uninterrupted charge, discharge fully to hibernate-cutoff and recharge to 100% once more. After that cycle, the gauge resets and reports correctly.

The Aspire 4710Z's battery info screen shows a Wh rating that doesn't match what the replacement battery is supposed to be — is the cell wrong?

The Wh value displayed in BIOS or Windows comes from the EEPROM on the old cell's logic board, not from measuring the new cell directly. Until the BIOS completes a full learn cycle, it reports the rated value stored in firmware, which may differ from the actual 73.26Wh of the replacement. Run one complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100%, and the system will rewrite that value based on actual measured capacity. The displayed Wh figure will update after one to two calibration cycles.

My Acer Aspire 4710Z stops charging at 80% and never goes higher — is this a faulty cell?

The Aspire platform includes a BIOS-controlled charge limit that some firmware versions enable by default to reduce cell stress during extended AC use. This caps charging at 80% regardless of which cell is fitted — it is not a fault with the replacement battery. Open Acer Care Center or check the BIOS power settings under Battery Health Mode and disable the charge limit. Once turned off, the battery charges to a full 12.6V at the cell terminals.
