Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Acer Aspire Switch 11 SW5-173 — 7.6V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (AP15B8K)
This is a 7.6V 4400mAh (33.44Wh) Li-Polymer cell for the Acer Aspire Switch 11 SW5-173 and SW5-173P detachable 2-in-1. It replaces OEM part numbers AP15B8K, KT.0020G.005, and AP15B8K (2ICP3/100/107). The original cell degrades after repeated charge cycles — this replacement restores full charge capacity to the tablet chassis.
- SW5-173 and SW5-173P compatibility: Both models use the same battery bay dimensions (215.12 x 140.90 x 3.36mm), identical 7.6V rail, and the same BMS connector pinout. The fuel gauge IC communicates over SMBus — the cell must match voltage exactly or the BIOS flags it as unknown.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the SW5-173 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without faulting, charge current tapered correctly at the top-of-charge threshold, and the SMBus handshake reported accurate state-of-charge to the OS.
- Post-install calibration on the SW5-173: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge until the device hibernates at cutoff voltage, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the BIOS battery learn cycle to reset against the new cell data and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.
BIOS reporting battery health as poor after installing a new cell
The SW5-173 BIOS reads health status from EEPROM data stored during previous charge cycles on the original cell. When a new cell goes in, the old cycle count and capacity records don't match the fresh chemistry — the BIOS flags it as degraded. This is a firmware state issue, not a fault with the replacement. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% to trigger the learn cycle reset. After two to three full cycles, the health indicator typically returns to normal.
Switch 11 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's voltage curve. The IC still references the old cell's discharge profile, so it calls 0% too early — the device cuts power while the display still shows charge remaining. The fix is a full calibration cycle: discharge completely to hibernate cutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption. Repeat twice. After that, the gauge IC maps the new curve correctly and shutdowns should stop occurring above 5% reported charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Acer Switch 11 shows 0% battery and won't recognise the new cell at all — what's happening?
The BIOS is reading stale EEPROM data from the old cell and cannot match it to the new one, so it reports the battery as unknown or 0%. Shut the device down completely, not just sleep, then boot into Windows and let the cell charge from flat to 100% uninterrupted. This forces the SMBus handshake to re-initialise and the BIOS battery learn cycle to write fresh data. If the 0% reading persists past one full charge, check BIOS version — some SW5-173 firmware revisions have a battery detection bug fixed in a later update on Acer's support page.
Windows says the battery Wh rating is wrong after swapping the cell — should I be worried?
Windows reads the Wh rating from the EEPROM embedded in the cell, and that value is sometimes set to the rated nominal figure rather than the exact measured capacity of the specific cell shipped. Our bench tests on this cell show actual capacity aligns with the 33.44Wh spec in the product data. The discrepancy in Windows Battery Report is a reporting artefact — it does not affect how the cell charges or discharges. Cross-check by running a full charge cycle and comparing the full charge capacity figure in Battery Report to the design capacity figure.
The new battery charges to 80% then stops — the charge indicator freezes and nothing happens overnight.
This is almost always a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a fault with the cell. Acer's firmware on some SW5-173 units ships with a battery care setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce cycle wear. Open the Acer Care Center app on Windows, go to Battery Health Manager, and check whether a charge limit mode is active. Switch it to Standard mode to allow full charges to 100%. If Acer Care Center is not installed, the same setting may appear in the BIOS under the Main or Power tab at boot — look for "Battery Limit" or "Charge Threshold."
