The Wh figure in Windows Device Manager and Acer's system tools pulls from the EEPROM data written to the original cell, not a live measurement of the replacement. The rated value in the EEPROM may differ slightly from the actual 33.82Wh of the AP16B4J cell. After one full discharge-to-hibernate and a complete recharge, the fuel gauge IC recalculates against the real cell chemistry and the reported Wh figure updates to reflect the actual installed capacity.
The Switch Alpha 12 won't charge past 80% after fitting the new battery — is the cell faulty?
Not likely. Acer's firmware includes a BIOS-controlled charge limit that caps charging at 80% when "Battery Care" mode is active in the Aspire settings or Acer Care Center. This is a firmware-side decision, not a fault in the replacement cell. Open Acer Care Center, navigate to Battery Health, and confirm the charge limit toggle is set to 100% rather than the reduced-charge mode.
