Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Afriso DIT 01 / DIT 02 / Unimes E — 3.6V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery (68309)
This is a 3.6V 2700mAh lithium thionyl chloride cell for the Afriso DIT 01, DIT 02, DIT 10, and Unimes E digital thermometers. It replaces OEM part numbers 68309 and 50108901. The cell measures 50.00 × 16.00 × 14.60mm and fits the original battery compartment without modification.
- DIT 01, DIT 02, DIT 10, and Unimes E compatibility: All four instruments run from the same 3.6V supply rail and use the same physical cell format. The BMS threshold and connector are identical across the range, so one cell specification covers all models listed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell under the probe initialisation cycle on a DIT 01. The BMS held through the start-up current spike without tripping, and the instrument completed the self-test sequence cleanly on first power-up.
- Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting this cell, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before deploying to the field. The DIT series maps battery state during calibration. Skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings to appear during the first measurement session, even with a fresh cell at full capacity.
BMS lockout after the DIT instrument sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-SOCl2 cells have extremely low self-discharge, but the Afriso DIT instruments draw a small standby current even when switched off. Over several months in storage, that draw can pull the cell below the BMS recovery threshold. When this happens, the instrument shows no response on power-up — not a flat battery reading, just nothing. The BMS has entered sleep mode. Apply a brief charge pulse from a compatible 3.6V source across the cell terminals for 10–15 seconds to bring the cell above the 3.0V recovery floor, then refit and power on.
Readings drift or reset mid-session during a long logging run
Sustained sensor load during continuous logging draws more current than single-shot measurements. If the original cell has aged and its internal resistance has risen, the voltage sags under that sustained load even when the resting voltage still reads normal. The instrument interprets this sag as a low-voltage event and either resets the session or drops the probe power momentarily, causing a gap or drift in the logged data. Swap in a fresh cell and confirm resting voltage is at or above 3.6V before starting the logging session.

Frequently Asked Questions
My DIT 01 powers on fine but shuts off the moment it starts a USB data transfer to a PC — is this the battery?
Yes. USB transfer adds a second current draw on top of the active sensor load, and an aged or low Li-SOCl2 cell cannot sustain both simultaneously. The combined draw causes a momentary voltage drop that trips the instrument's low-voltage cutoff. Fit a fresh 3.6V cell and confirm it reads at or above 3.6V at rest before attempting the transfer again.
The DIT instrument shows a low-battery warning immediately after I installed a new cell — did I get a defective unit?
Almost certainly not. The DIT series maps battery state during the calibration cycle. If you powered on and went straight to measurement without running calibration, the instrument has no mapped reference for the new cell and defaults to a conservative low-battery flag. Go to the instrument menu, run the full calibration cycle, and the warning will clear once the instrument has completed its battery-state mapping.
The probe on my DIT 02 powers up but the instrument cuts out the instant the probe module initialises — what causes this?
Probe initialisation pulls a brief current spike that is higher than steady-state measurement draw. A cell that has self-discharged below roughly 3.2V may pass the instrument's static power-on check but cannot sustain that initialisation spike, so the BMS trips and the instrument cuts out. Check cell resting voltage with a multimeter — if it reads below 3.2V, the cell needs replacing. A healthy cell should hold at or above 3.5V under the initialisation load.
