Fits Systronik 4-HXAAL surveying instruments; replaces OEM part 22996 and 91507801.
4.8V 2000mAh Ni-MH pack delivers stable voltage under sustained sensor and probe loads.
Connector mates directly into original battery slot with positive and negative contact alignment.
We bench-tested this cell under continuous measurement cycles; the BMS held voltage steady without cutoff.
Before field deployment, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu—this maps battery state and prevents premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Systronik 4-HXAAL — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (22996)

This is a 4.8V 2000mAh Ni-MH battery for the Systronik 4-HXAAL portable survey and test instrument. It replaces OEM part numbers 22996 and 91507801. Capacity matches original specification at 9.6Wh.

  • 4-HXAAL power rail: The 4-HXAAL runs its sensor modules and display from a single 4.8V Ni-MH pack. The BMS monitors cell voltage across all four cells in series — one weak cell pulls the whole pack below cutoff threshold and the instrument shuts down even with remaining capacity.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through probe initialisation draws and sustained logging loads. The BMS held cutoff thresholds correctly and cell balance stayed within spec across repeated charge-discharge cycles.
  • First-use calibration cycle: After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument's menu before going into the field. The 4-HXAAL maps battery state during calibration. Skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on your first measurement session even when the pack is fully charged.

BMS lockout after the 4-HXAAL sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. After several months in storage, cell voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 0.9V per cell on a 4-cell pack. When the instrument's BMS reads voltage below that floor, it refuses to accept a charge and the device shows no response on the charge indicator. Place the pack on a compatible charger that supports trickle or recovery mode to bring cell voltage back above 1.0V per cell before attempting a standard charge cycle.

Readings drifting or resetting mid-session during sustained sensor logging

Under continuous sensor load, sustained current draw can cause voltage to sag across the pack, particularly as cells age or a new pack hasn't completed its first full calibration cycle. When pack voltage dips momentarily below the instrument's operating threshold, the 4-HXAAL resets its measurement session rather than shutting down cleanly — logs may appear incomplete or readings jump. Run the calibration cycle first, then confirm resting pack voltage sits above 5.0V before starting a long logging session.

Frequently Asked Questions

My 4-HXAAL won't charge at all after sitting in the case all winter — is the battery dead?

Probably not dead, just below the BMS recovery floor. Ni-MH cells self-discharge over months and if each cell drops below roughly 0.9V, the charger sees the pack as a fault and refuses to charge. Use a charger with a trickle or recovery mode to bring the cells back above 1.0V per cell, then switch to a normal charge cycle. If the pack recovers past 4.8V on a multimeter, it's serviceable.

The instrument powers on fine but shuts itself off the moment it starts a USB data transfer to my PC — why?

USB data transfer adds a combined draw — active sensor hold, display, and USB controller all pulling at once. If the pack voltage sags under that combined load, the 4-HXAAL's BMS trips the cutoff before the transfer completes. Charge the pack fully first, confirm resting voltage is at or above 5.0V, then attempt the transfer again. If it still drops out, the original cells have degraded past their capacity floor and a replacement pack resolves it.

The display shows a full battery indicator at startup, then jumps to low battery after the first probe initialisation — what's happening?

Probe initialisation pulls a short current spike as the sensor module powers up. If the pack's voltage-threshold indicator hasn't been recalibrated to the new cells, the instrument reads that momentary voltage dip as a genuine low-battery condition. Install the new pack, run a complete calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field use, and the indicator will re-anchor its thresholds to the actual cell voltage curve.
