Fits Albrecht DR 855 and DR 860 DAB radios, replacing OEM part number 27856.
Provides 3.7V and 5200mAh capacity — sufficient voltage for full RF transmit power during station scanning and stable DAB decoder operation across extended listening sessions.
Connects via the original slot connector with single locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion on this model.
We bench-tested the BMS on a DR 860 unit — the protection circuit engaged properly at cutoff and the BMS accepted a full charge cycle without fault codes.
After installing this cell, allow the radio to complete a full auto-scan for stations before manual tuning — DAB radios store station lists in volatile memory that reset after power loss and require a fresh scan to rebuild the frequency table.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Albrecht DR 855 / DR 860 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (27856)

This 3.7V, 5200mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the factory pack in the Albrecht DR 855 and DR 860 portable DAB+ and FM digital radio receivers. It restores power to units where the original cell has lost capacity or stopped holding charge. Dimensions are 66.00 × 36.50 × 18.80mm — measure your existing pack before fitting if you are unsure.

  • DR 855 and DR 860 fitment: Both models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V supply rail to the DAB decoder board. One pack covers both variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a DAB receiver platform. The BMS responded correctly to charge termination and low-voltage cutoff without triggering false fault states on the host board.
  • Post-install station scan: After fitting this battery, run a full auto-scan before tuning manually. DAB station lists are held in volatile memory and are wiped on power interruption. A fresh scan rebuilds the station index completely — skipping it leaves gaps or stale entries in the station list.

Radio cutting out mid-station at low battery

The DAB decoder in the DR 855 and DR 860 requires a stable voltage supply to maintain stream synchronisation. When the cell sags below roughly 3.2V under load, the decoder loses lock on the DAB multiplex and drops the audio stream. This appears as a sudden cut to silence rather than static, which is different from FM dropout. Recharging the battery before it reaches that sag threshold prevents the decode failure entirely.

Reception noticeably worse in weak signal areas after a battery swap

In areas with a marginal DAB signal, the receiver increases its RF front-end power draw to maintain lock on the multiplex. A partially charged or faulty battery cannot sustain the voltage headroom this requires, so signal quality drops even though the radio is powered on. This is not a fault with the aerial or tuner — it is a voltage supply problem under elevated RF load. Charge the replacement battery fully before testing reception in a weak signal location.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DR 855 lost all its saved stations after I swapped the battery — do I need to re-enter them manually?

No manual entry needed. DAB station lists are stored in volatile memory and are cleared any time the battery is fully disconnected. Run a full auto-scan from the radio's menu and the DR 855 will rebuild its complete station index from the broadcast signal. The scan takes a couple of minutes and restores all receivable stations automatically.

The DR 860 cuts to silence mid-programme but the battery indicator still shows charge — what's happening?

The battery indicator on the DR 860 reads resting voltage, not load voltage. When the cell ages or is partially discharged, voltage sags under the DAB decoder's draw even if the indicator looks fine. The decoder loses multiplex lock the moment supply voltage dips below its threshold, causing a hard audio cut rather than static. Charge the battery fully and test — if the dropouts stop, the cell was the cause.

Battery life is noticeably shorter when I use the DR 855 in the garden than indoors — is that normal?

Yes, and it is a signal strength issue, not a fault. In weak DAB coverage areas the RF front end draws more current to maintain lock on the multiplex. That increased current draw depletes the cell faster than it would in a strong signal location. Moving closer to a window or a known strong signal area will reduce that extra drain and extend use between charges.
