If talk time feels short after the first day, run the handset down to where the low-battery indicator appears, then return it to the base for a full charge. Repeat this three to five times and capacity will stabilise at the rated level.

The handset is dead by morning even though I put it back in the base every night — what's draining it?

This is a contact or seating issue, not a battery fault. If the handset sits slightly off-centre in the cradle, the charging pins lose contact and the standby draw runs the pack flat overnight. Check that the handset clicks firmly into the base and the charge indicator light comes on within a few seconds of placing it.
