Fits MacBook Pro 15" Retina Core i7 2.3–2.7 GHz 2013 models, replaces OEM part A1417 and A1398.
10.95V at 8600mAh delivers 94.17Wh—the full rated capacity your 15" Retina shipped with originally.
Connector is a two-pin proprietary Apple contact; insert straight into the battery slot until the latch clicks solid.
We ran a full discharge-to-cutoff cycle on the 2013 15" Retina platform; the BMS engaged voltage regulation cleanly at 10.5V with no early shutdown.
Run one complete discharge cycle to sleep, then charge uninterrupted to 100%—this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the "Replace Soon" health warning that appears after every cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Apple MacBook Pro 15" Retina — 10.95V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (A1417)

This is a 10.95V, 8600mAh (94.17Wh) Li-Polymer battery for the Apple MacBook Pro 15" Retina line. It fits the Core i7 2.3, 2.4, 2.6, and 2.7 models covered under OEM part numbers A1417 and A1398. Install it when the original cell no longer holds a usable charge or macOS reports service warnings.

  • A1398 chassis compatibility: These Retina models share the same 10.95V battery rail, connector pinout, and SMC handshake across the 2012–2013 production runs. The A1417 cell fits each variant without modification to the connector or retaining bracket.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on an A1398 chassis. The SMC accepted the battery without triggering a kernel panic, and the BMS communicated state-of-charge data correctly to the system after the initial learn cycle completed.
  • SMC recalibration after install: After fitting this battery, run the MacBook down until it hibernates on its own, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the machine. This one full cycle resets the SMC battery learn routine and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears in System Information after a cell swap.

Why macOS reports incorrect Wh capacity after replacing an A1417 cell

The Wh figure shown in System Information is read from the EEPROM on the battery's BMS board, not calculated live from cell voltage and current. When a replacement cell ships, its EEPROM may carry a rated Wh value that differs slightly from the actual chemistry spec. This does not affect how the battery charges or discharges — it is a data field mismatch. The figure typically self-corrects after two to three full charge and discharge cycles as the fuel gauge IC updates its learned capacity.

MacBook Pro shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The gauge predicts 20–30% remaining based on the old cell's profile, but the new cell hits its low-voltage cutoff at a different point. Under full CPU and display load, voltage drops faster than the gauge expects, and the SMC cuts power before the screen percentage reaches zero. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100%, and the shutdowns will stop as the IC locks onto the correct curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

macOS still shows "Service Recommended" in the battery menu after fitting the new A1417 cell — is something wrong with the replacement?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The SMC carries health data from the old battery in its learn cycle memory, and it flags the warning until it completes a full recalibration against the new cell. Run the MacBook down until it hibernates on its own, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That one complete cycle resets the SMC learn routine and clears the warning.

System Information shows the wrong Wh rating — it says 95Wh or some other number that doesn't match the battery I ordered

The Wh figure in System Information is pulled from the EEPROM on the battery's BMS board, not calculated from live measurements. Replacement cells can ship with a rated EEPROM value that differs slightly from the actual chemistry spec. It does not affect charging or discharge behaviour. After two to three full cycles the fuel gauge IC updates its learned capacity and the displayed figure stabilises.

The battery percentage jumps around wildly for the first day after the swap — it showed 60%, then 90%, then 45% within an hour

The fuel gauge IC inside the MacBook is still reading the new cell against the old cell's stored voltage curve. Until it maps the new cell's actual charge and discharge profile, the percentage output is unreliable. This is not a fault in the battery. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles with uninterrupted charges to 100% between them, and the gauge will lock onto the correct curve.
