Fits Ascom D81 EX cordless phone; replaces OEM battery for this DECT handset model.
3.7V lithium-ion cell at 1100mAh delivers rated talk time on the D81 EX platform.
Connector slides into the D81 EX battery slot; no locking tab — gravity holds pack seated.
We bench-tested this cell in a D81 EX base dock; BMS accepted charge without fault codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour first charge — lithium cells in DECT phones require slow initial charging to stabilize the fuel gauge circuit.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Ascom D81 EX — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Ascom D81 EX cordless DECT handset. It restores power to a handset that no longer holds charge or shuts off mid-call. Voltage and capacity match the original cell specification exactly.

  • D81 EX platform fit: The D81 EX uses a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion pack with a fixed connector orientation and BMS handshake built into the protection circuit. This battery matches that connector and PCB pin layout, so the handset's charge management reads the cell correctly from the first dock.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the D81 EX platform. The BMS accepted the cell without triggering a fault flag, and the handset's charge indicator progressed normally through each stage to full.
  • First charge on the D81 EX: Place the handset in the base cradle immediately after fitting this battery and leave it for a full charge cycle before use. The D81 EX's charge circuit uses a trickle-then-fast profile — interrupting early will cap what the BMS records as usable capacity.

Talk time shorter than expected after fitting a new Li-ion pack

A fresh Li-ion cell ships at partial state of charge — typically 40–60% — and the D81 EX BMS sets its capacity estimate based on the first full cycle it observes. If the handset is used before that first full charge completes, the BMS logs a lower ceiling and cuts off earlier than it should. Run one complete charge from flat to full, then discharge through normal use, and repeat twice. After three full cycles, the BMS recalibrates to the actual 1100mAh capacity.

Base station shows no charge light after battery swap

When a Li-ion cell drops below roughly 2.5V from extended storage, some DECT base stations refuse to initiate a charge cycle — the base reads the voltage as an error state rather than a depleted cell. Seat the handset firmly in the cradle and check the contacts on both the handset and base are clean and making full contact. If the charge light still does not come on after five minutes, remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, and re-dock — this resets the base charge controller handshake. A cell above 2.5V will trigger normal charging on re-dock.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Ascom D81 EX handset lost its pairing with the base after I replaced the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing power from a DECT handset clears the internal pairing memory on some D81 EX units because the registration data is held in volatile RAM backed by the battery. The fix is a manual re-registration: press and hold the registration button on the base until the LED flashes, then follow the pairing sequence on the handset. You do not need to factory reset the base — only the handset needs to re-register.

The D81 EX battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what's wrong?

This usually means the handset is not making solid contact with the base charging pins. Check that the handset clicks fully into the cradle and that both the cradle pins and handset contacts are free of dust or corrosion — a cotton swab with isopropyl alcohol clears most residue. If the contacts are clean but the drain continues, check the base power adapter is delivering voltage to the cradle by confirming the charge LED lights when you seat a known-good handset. Standby draw on a correctly docked D81 EX is low enough that a 1100mAh cell should hold charge overnight without issue.

After swapping the battery, the D81 EX signal strength seems weaker and calls break up near the edges of my building — is this the battery?

Yes, this can be battery-related. The D81 EX's DECT transmitter draws a short current spike when maintaining the radio link, and if the battery voltage sags under that load, transmit power drops and range shrinks. This most often happens in the first few charge cycles before the BMS has calibrated to the new cell. Complete two to three full charge-discharge cycles and the voltage sag under RF load will reduce. If range is still poor after conditioning, clean the antenna contact point inside the battery compartment — a poor connection adds resistance and worsens the sag.
