Asus MyPal A716 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (A716/MBT)

This 3.7V, 1500mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original cell in the Asus MyPal A716 pocket PC. It fits the A716 directly using the OEM part number A716/MBT. Voltage and capacity match the original specification — 3.7V nominal, 5.55Wh total.

  • MyPal A716 fit: The A716 uses a fixed battery bay with a single flat connector. This replacement matches that connector pinout and the BMS voltage thresholds the A716's charging circuit expects. No modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the A716 platform. The BMS reported correct voltage at each stage and the device registered a full charge without error flags.
  • RAM data protection before swap: The A716 stores active application state and open files in SRAM powered directly by the main battery. Sync all data to the host PC using ActiveSync before removing the battery — cutting power without syncing will wipe whatever is held in RAM at that moment.

Why the MyPal A716 won't complete its boot sequence after a new battery is fitted

The A716 boot ROM runs a voltage check before loading the OS. If the replacement cell ships partially discharged — common with stored Li-ion — the device may freeze at the Asus splash screen or refuse to power on at all. This is a low-voltage cutoff, not a fault with the battery or device. Charge the new cell for at least two hours before the first boot attempt. The device should power on normally once the cell reaches approximately 3.6V or above.

The A716's wireless sync radio and backlight together draw significantly more current than standby mode. If the battery indicator reads full but the device shuts down sooner than the original cell did, check whether Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is active during use — both are high-drain features on this platform. A degraded original cell can also skew the charge indicator because the A716 calibrates its gauge against the battery's internal resistance over time. After fitting a new cell, run two full charge-to-discharge cycles to let the gauge recalibrate to 3.7V nominal.

The battery is not at fault. The A716 holds contacts, calendar data, and open application state in SRAM, which is powered directly by the main battery. The moment the old cell is removed, that RAM loses power and the data is gone. Before any future battery swap, run a full ActiveSync sync to your host PC — that writes everything to persistent storage and protects it from power removal.

The MyPal A716 powers on after fitting the new battery but freezes at the boot screen and won't load Windows Mobile — what's wrong?

This is a low-voltage boot failure. The A716's boot ROM checks cell voltage before loading the OS, and a freshly shipped Li-ion cell often sits below that threshold after storage. Connect the device to its charger and leave it for at least two hours before attempting to power on. Once the cell reaches around 3.6V, the boot sequence will complete normally.

Wireless ActiveSync keeps dropping on my A716 after fitting the replacement battery — it was fine on the old cell.

The A716's Wi-Fi radio is voltage-sensitive and drops signal when the cell isn't fully charged. A new Li-ion battery shipped at partial charge may not deliver stable current to the radio, causing intermittent disconnects even though the device appears to be on. Charge the battery fully before attempting any wireless sync session. If the issue persists after a complete charge, run one full discharge and recharge cycle to let the device recalibrate its voltage gauge.
