Fits AT&T 401, 4126, 24032X, A36 cordless handsets; replaces OEM 3.6V battery packs.
3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full talk and standby time on DECT cordless units.
Connector slides straight into handset battery slot; locking tab seats flush with housing.
Bench testing showed steady 3.6V output under transmit load; BMS accepted charge cycle immediately.
After installation, place handset in base for full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cells reach rated capacity only after slow initial charge cycle on DECT platforms.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AT&T 401 / 4126 / 24032X — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery pack for AT&T cordless phone handsets. It fits the 401, 4126, 24032X, and A36 series models. The pack slots into the handset battery compartment and connects to the existing charge contacts.

  • 401 and 4126 series compatibility: These models share the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH format, the same footprint at 50.79 × 42.40 × 14.23mm, and the same two-contact charge interface — which is why one pack covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the base station charge circuit on a 401 handset. The base accepted the NiMH voltage profile without a charge error, and the BMS held steady through full charge and idle draw.
  • First charge on NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need that slow initial charge to condition the cells and reach rated capacity — a quick top-up will leave you with noticeably short talk time.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state. The first three to five charge-and-use cycles are conditioning cycles — capacity builds each time. If talk time feels short after day one, that is expected behaviour, not a faulty pack. By cycle five, the battery should reach its rated 700mAh and hold it consistently.

Base station shows no charge or error light on new pack

NiMH packs that have sat in storage can drop below the voltage threshold the base station uses to detect a valid battery. The base interprets this as no pack present and will not start the charge cycle. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and re-seat it firmly — this prompts the base to re-check voltage. If the error persists, the pack voltage has dropped too low; place a multimeter on the contacts and confirm you are reading at least 2.8V before re-seating.

Frequently Asked Questions

My AT&T 401 handset lost its pairing after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT cordless phones drop their pairing registration when the handset loses power completely, which happens during a battery swap. The fix is to re-register the handset to the base: press and hold the page or find button on the base for about five seconds, then follow the pairing sequence in your handset's manual. Do this with the new battery fully seated and the handset powered on.

The battery drains overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what's wrong?

This is almost always a seating issue, not a faulty battery. If the handset is not making clean contact with the base charge pins, it draws standby power from the battery without receiving any charge back. Remove the handset, check the charge contacts on both the handset and base for dust or oxidation, wipe them with a dry cloth, and re-seat the handset until it clicks or sits flush. Confirm the base LED switches to charging state.

The range on my 401 dropped after I put in the new battery — calls cut out further from the base than before.

Range loss after a battery swap usually points to voltage sag under RF transmit load. The DECT radio in the handset draws a short current spike each time it transmits, and a NiMH pack that has not yet been conditioned will sag in voltage during that spike, causing the radio to reduce transmit power. Run three to five full charge-and-use cycles to build cell capacity. After conditioning, measured open-circuit voltage at full charge should sit at approximately 4.3V for a healthy 3.6V NiMH pack.
