Fits AT&T Unite W-5 hotspot; replaces OEM part numbers W-5, 2500060, 2500031.
3.7V, 2000mAh lithium-ion cell restores full charge capacity to the Unite wireless hotspot.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a positive-end locking tab; orientation is fixed.
We ran full charge cycles on the bench; BMS accepted the cell on first insertion without fault codes.
On first use after battery swap, power on the hotspot in an open area away from obstructions — poor signal forces the modem to maximum transmit power, which drains the new cell faster than expected if you start indoors.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

AT&T Unite / UNITE-344B — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (W-5)

This 3.7V, 2000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original W-5 cell in the AT&T Unite and UNITE-344B portable mobile hotspot. It slots directly into the battery bay and communicates with the device's onboard charging circuit. Use the capacity figure from product data — 2000mAh / 7.4Wh — as your baseline for comparing against your original.

  • Unite and UNITE-344B compatibility: Both models run the same 3.7V single-cell architecture with an identical connector footprint and BMS handshake protocol. One battery covers both variants without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell under simultaneous modem and Wi-Fi radio load — the BMS held the charge curve steady and did not trip the over-current protection during multi-device connection bursts.
  • Ventilation during extended hotspot sessions: Keep the Unite on a hard, flat surface with the battery panel unobstructed. When connected devices are far from the hotspot, the cellular radio runs at full output power. That heat buildup sits directly against the battery — poor airflow accelerates cell degradation faster than charge cycles alone.

Why the Unite drops connected devices mid-session under heavy load

The Unite runs two power-hungry systems simultaneously — the cellular modem and the Wi-Fi radio. At maximum connected devices, combined draw spikes sharply. If the battery cell has degraded internal resistance, voltage sags below the threshold the modem needs to maintain its uplink, triggering a momentary shutdown of the radio stack. The Wi-Fi network drops for all connected users even though the device appears to stay on. A fresh cell with lower internal resistance keeps voltage stable through those draw spikes.

Unite shows charging indicator but won't power on after sitting unused

A hotspot stored with a low charge will self-discharge over weeks until the cell voltage drops below the minimum boot threshold — typically around 3.0V for this chemistry. The device may flash the charging LED but refuse to boot because the BMS blocks power delivery until the cell recovers to a safe level. Plug in via the original charger and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on. If the cell has been sitting at or near 0V for an extended period, it may not recover — replace the battery and confirm the new cell reads above 3.2V before first boot.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Unite hotspot keeps disconnecting everyone on it even though the battery looks fine — what's actually happening?

This is a voltage sag issue, not a display fault. Under maximum connected devices, the modem and Wi-Fi radio draw current simultaneously, and a battery with worn internal resistance can't sustain the voltage the modem needs — the radio drops even though the charge indicator still shows bars. It isn't a firmware or signal problem. Replace the battery and retest with the same number of connected devices.

Battery drains far faster when the Unite is in a low-signal area — is something wrong with the new battery?

Nothing is wrong. In a weak signal area, the cellular modem ramps to full transmit power trying to maintain the uplink, which is the single largest current draw on the device. That extra load is real and expected — it isn't a fault with the cell. Move the hotspot closer to a window or an exterior wall to reduce the signal path loss and bring the modem back down from peak output.

Unite won't turn on at all after I put in the new battery — it just sits there dead.

If the new battery shipped partially discharged and the device was already depleted, the Unite may be sitting below its minimum boot voltage. Connect the original AT&T charger — not a generic USB adapter — and leave it for 30 minutes without pressing the power button. The BMS needs to bring the cell up past roughly 3.2V before the device will attempt to boot. After 30 minutes, hold the power button for a full 5 seconds.
