Fits Barnes & Noble NOOK Model 005 e-reader; replaces OEM battery BNRB1530.
3.7V, 1250mAh cell powers e-ink display and device logic without external charging between reading sessions.
Connector slides into battery slot vertically; no locking tab — orientation is fixed by slot geometry.
We bench-tested this cell in a Model 005 unit; BMS accepted charge without fault and held voltage stable through 50 page-turn cycles.
After installation, charge fully via USB before opening the e-reader — firmware needs a complete charge cycle to recalibrate the battery percentage display after cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Barnes & Noble NOOK Classic / BNRZ100 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BNRB1530)

This 3.7V, 1250mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Barnes & Noble NOOK e-reader, model 005 (OEM part BNRB1530). It fits the NOOK Classic and BNRZ100 variants that share the same battery bay dimensions and connector. Capacity matches factory spec at 4.63Wh.

  • NOOK 005, BNRZ100, and Classic compatibility: These models share the same 3.7V single-cell architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — that's why one cell covers all three. The e-ink controller and CPU draw from the same rail, so voltage tolerance is identical across the group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a NOOK 005 unit and confirmed the BMS accepted charge without error flags, the low-battery cutoff triggered at the correct threshold, and the display stayed stable through repeated page turns at full draw.
  • First-charge calibration after swap: After installing, charge via USB until the indicator shows full before powering on. The NOOK firmware uses the first full charge cycle to set its fuel-gauge baseline — skipping this step causes the battery percentage to read incorrectly from the first boot.

Why the NOOK 005 shows low battery immediately after a new cell is installed

Replacement cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V — which sits just above the NOOK's low-battery warning threshold. The firmware reads that resting voltage on first boot and flags it as nearly depleted before any charge measurement has occurred. This is a firmware read issue, not a faulty cell. Connect the device to USB power immediately after the first boot and let it charge fully before using it.

Battery percentage jumping around after a cell swap on the NOOK Classic

The NOOK's fuel gauge learns cell behaviour over charge and discharge cycles — after a swap, it has no history for the new cell. Until it completes two or three full cycles, percentage readings can jump from 80% to 40% with no load change. This is recalibration, not a defective battery. Run two complete charge cycles from under 10% to full, and the gauge will stabilise.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NOOK won't turn on at all after I put the new battery in — did I get a dead cell?

Almost certainly not. Replacement cells ship at storage voltage, which can be too low for the NOOK's boot circuit to start. Connect the device to a USB charger and leave it for 10–15 minutes without pressing any buttons. Once the cell climbs above roughly 3.7V, the boot circuit will engage and the device will power on normally.

WiFi is draining the new battery noticeably faster than I expected — is the cell undersized?

The NOOK's WiFi radio draws significantly more current than the e-ink display does during normal reading. A 1250mAh cell at 3.7V is correct for this device, but active WiFi sync can pull several times the display-only load. Turn WiFi off in settings when you are reading and only enable it when syncing — this is the single biggest factor affecting charge life on the NOOK 005.

Page turns are slower and the screen takes longer to refresh since I replaced the battery — what's causing that?

E-ink displays require a voltage pulse to flip pixels, and if the cell voltage sags slightly under load, the refresh controller slows down its drive sequence to compensate. This usually happens when the new cell hasn't been fully charged yet and resting voltage is below 3.9V. Charge the device fully and run a complete cycle — if refresh speed is still sluggish after that, check the battery contacts in the bay for oxidation or a loose connection.
