Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony PRS-600 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (A98927554931)
This is a 3.7V 800mAh Li-Polymer cell for the Sony PRS-600, PRS-600/RC, and PRS-600/BC e-readers. It replaces the original battery when years of charge cycles have reduced capacity to the point where the device no longer holds a usable charge. Dimensions are 63.52 × 34.12 × 3.65mm — measure your original cell before ordering.
- PRS-600 series fitment: The PRS-600, PRS-600/RC, and PRS-600/BC share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pin-out, and BMS handshake requirements. All three accept this cell without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the PRS-600 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without a fault flag, and the e-ink controller drew consistent current through full page-refresh cycles.
- Post-swap charge cycle: After fitting this battery, charge via USB until the on-screen indicator shows full before use. The PRS-600 firmware recalibrates its battery percentage display against a full charge reference — skipping this step causes the percentage counter to read erratically from the first session.
Why the PRS-600 shows low battery immediately after a new cell is installed
Replacement cells ship in storage mode, typically sitting between 3.6V and 3.7V. The PRS-600 firmware sets its low-battery warning threshold relative to a calibrated full-charge baseline it has not yet recorded for the new cell. Until the firmware completes one full charge cycle, it interprets the uncalibrated state-of-charge data as a near-empty cell. Connect the USB cable, let the device charge to 100%, and the warning clears on its own.
Battery percentage jumping around after a cell swap
The PRS-600 stores charge-curve data from the previous cell in firmware memory. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual cell behaviour, so the percentage reading jumps as the firmware tries to map old data to new voltage readings. This resolves through one or two full charge-and-discharge cycles, after which the firmware rewrites its curve data. If the jumping persists past two full cycles, verify the USB cable is delivering consistent 5V and not dropping mid-charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
My PRS-600 won't turn on at all after fitting the new battery — no screen, no response to the power button.
The cell likely discharged below the PRS-600's minimum boot voltage during storage or shipping. Connect the USB cable and leave it on charge for at least 10 minutes before pressing the power button — the device will not respond to the button until the cell recovers above approximately 3.5V. If there is still no response after 10 minutes, confirm the battery connector is fully seated on the board; a partially connected ribbon can prevent any voltage from reaching the main board.
Page turns are noticeably slower after replacing the battery — the e-ink refresh is lagging.
E-ink displays draw a short current spike during each page refresh to flip the microcapsule layer. Under low cell voltage, that spike causes a voltage sag that the display controller detects and responds to by slowing the refresh sequence to stay within safe draw limits. Charge the device fully before judging refresh speed — if the lag disappears at full charge but returns as the battery level drops, the cell is functioning correctly and the lag is the controller protecting the display. If the lag persists even at full charge, check that the battery connector contacts are clean and making solid contact.
The PRS-600 drains much faster when WiFi sync is on versus reading with the radio off.
The PRS-600's WiFi radio draws significantly more current than the e-ink display alone — the display holds a page image with almost no power, while the radio stays active continuously during a sync. An 800mAh cell at this voltage class will deplete noticeably faster under that combined load. Turn WiFi off between sync sessions from the Settings menu, and only enable it when actively transferring content. If the device is primarily used for reading, keeping WiFi off between transfers is the single most effective way to extend time between charges.
