This 3.7V, 1050mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Bell & Howell DV30HD compact camcorder. It slots into the same battery compartment and connects via the same terminal layout as the factory cell. Capacity is 1050mAh (3.89Wh), matching the original spec.

  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench, confirming the BMS holds charge to 4.2V and trips the low-voltage cutoff before the cell drops below safe operating range. No anomalous heat or premature cutoff observed.
  • First-install charge cycle on the DV30HD: Run one full charge inside the camera body or OEM charger before recording. The DV30HD's battery-level indicator maps charge percentage to a specific discharge curve — skipping this step causes the indicator to read inaccurately from the first use.

Why the DV30HD battery indicator drops suddenly during video recording

The DV30HD samples cell voltage to estimate remaining charge, but sustained video recording pulls more current than still standby. Under that load, terminal voltage sags faster than the indicator expects, so the display skips from a mid-level reading to low or empty without warning. This is a voltage-sag artefact, not a defective cell. A full conditioning cycle from 0% to 100% inside the camera body recalibrates how the indicator tracks the discharge curve of the new cell.

Camera shows dead-battery icon immediately after inserting a freshly charged cell

This happens when the DV30HD's BMS hasn't yet authenticated the new cell's resting voltage against its acceptance threshold. The cell may read 4.1–4.2V on a multimeter but the camera still rejects it on first insertion. Remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, and reinsert — this forces the BMS to re-poll the cell voltage. If the icon persists, place the battery in the OEM charger for a short top-up charge, then reinsert into the camera body.

The DV30HD battery percentage jumps around erratically — shows 80%, then drops to 20% mid-clip. Is the replacement cell faulty?

The cell itself is almost certainly fine. The DV30HD maps its battery display to a voltage-threshold table calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new replacement cell discharges along a slightly different curve, so the indicator misreads percentage at certain voltage points. Run one full charge-discharge cycle inside the camera body and the indicator will track the new cell's curve more accurately from that point on.

The DV30HD cuts off completely during recording even though the battery indicator showed charge remaining.

Under sustained video load, the DV30HD draws enough current to pull the cell's terminal voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold before the indicator catches up — the camera shuts down to protect the cell. This is more pronounced in cold ambient temperatures, where internal cell resistance rises and voltage sag is sharper. Check the cell voltage with a multimeter after cutoff: a reading above 3.4V confirms the cell is healthy and the BMS tripped on a sag event, not a depleted cell. Warm the battery to room temperature before the next recording session to reduce resistance-driven sag.

The DV30HD won't recognise the battery at all — no power, no indicator, nothing on screen.

On first install, some units won't power on until the cell has been seated and the compartment door fully latched for at least 30 seconds, allowing the BMS to complete its initial handshake. If there is still no response, connect the camera to its OEM charger with the new battery installed — the charger circuit can wake a cell the camera body alone won't initialise. Once the charge indicator light activates on the charger, the battery is communicating correctly; remove and reinsert into the camera body to proceed.
