Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BenQ JoyBook R56 / R42 / C41 Series — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (2C.20770.001)
This 11.1V 4400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original cell in the BenQ JoyBook R56, R42, C41, and C41E notebooks, along with over 28 additional JoyBook models. It matches the OEM voltage, capacity, and connector pinout exactly. Cross-references include SQU-701, SQU-712, SQU-714, 916C5820F, 916C5840F, and DHR504, among others.
- JoyBook R56 / R42 / C41 platform compatibility: These JoyBook models share the same 11.1V three-cell battery rail, identical connector housing, and a compatible BMS handshake protocol — which is why a single cell covers all of them without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a JoyBook R56 chassis. The BMS negotiated charge termination correctly at full voltage, and the protection circuit tripped as expected at the low-voltage cutoff threshold — no false trips under normal load.
- First-install calibration on the JoyBook platform: After fitting, run the notebook down to automatic hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with the lid open. This forces the JoyBook's fuel gauge IC to reset its learned capacity data against the new cell and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.
Why the JoyBook R56 shuts down at 20–30% shown on the gauge
This happens when the ageing original cell can no longer sustain voltage under combined CPU and display load — the actual cell voltage collapses below the BMS cutoff threshold before the fuel gauge reaches zero. The gauge reports percentage based on stored EEPROM data calibrated to the old cell's degraded capacity, so the numbers no longer reflect reality. After swapping to a new cell, the same symptom can persist for two or three cycles until the fuel gauge IC recalibrates. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate and uninterrupted charge cycles to re-anchor the gauge to the new cell's actual voltage curve.
BIOS reporting battery health as poor or unknown after fitting a new cell
The JoyBook BIOS reads health status from EEPROM data embedded in the battery's BMS circuit — it does not measure cell condition directly. When a new cell is installed, the EEPROM cycle count and rated Wh data differ from what the BIOS previously logged, triggering a "poor health" or "unknown" flag. This is a data-mismatch warning, not a fault with the replacement cell. Complete one full battery learn cycle — discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — and the BIOS health status will update to reflect the new cell correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
The JoyBook R42 fuel gauge jumps around wildly — shows 60%, then 90%, then 40% within minutes of unplugging. Is the new battery faulty?
The fuel gauge IC on the JoyBook R42 calibrates itself against learned discharge data from the previous cell. When a new cell is installed, that stored data no longer matches the actual voltage curve, so the percentage readout is unreliable for the first few cycles. This is an IC calibration issue, not a cell defect. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100% — the gauge will stabilise after that.
The JoyBook C41 BIOS shows the wrong Wh rating — it displays 40Wh but the replacement cell is rated 48.84Wh. Which number is correct?
The Wh figure the BIOS displays is pulled from the EEPROM on the old battery's BMS circuit, not from the new cell. The replacement cell's actual rated capacity is 48.84Wh as printed on the label. The BIOS will continue to show the cached figure until the battery learn cycle overwrites the stored value — discharge to hibernate cutoff, charge uninterrupted to 100%, and the reported Wh will update to match the new cell's EEPROM data.
Charging stops at around 80% on the JoyBook R56 and the indicator light shows full — but the gauge never reaches 100%.
Several JoyBook BIOS versions ship with a firmware-controlled charge limit set to 80% to reduce cell stress during extended mains use. This is a BIOS setting, not a battery or charger fault. Go into the BenQ power management utility or BIOS power settings and disable the charge threshold or battery care mode. Once that setting is off, charge the notebook uninterrupted — it will reach 100%.
