Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BlackBerry Pearl 3G — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (F-M1)
This is a 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the original F-M1 battery in the BlackBerry Pearl 3G, Pearl 2, Pearl 9100, and Pearl 9105. It also fits seven additional Pearl series handsets that share the same form factor and connector. Dimensions are 51.12 × 36.78 × 5.56mm — measure your original before ordering if you are unsure.
- Pearl series compatibility: Every model in this fit list runs the same voltage rail and uses the same physical connector with identical BMS handshake requirements. One cell covers the full Pearl family without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell in a Pearl 9100 and monitored the BMS through charge and discharge cycles. The protection circuit held cutoff correctly at both ends, and charge termination tripped cleanly at 4.2V.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first install: After fitting, let the phone discharge fully to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before normal use. The Pearl's coulomb counter needs one complete cycle against the new cell's discharge curve to report accurate percentages.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Pearl after a cell swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC in the Pearl 9100 and 9105 is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. When voltage drops faster than the IC expects under modem or display load, the phone hits the hardware cutoff before the percentage counter reaches zero. The OS sees a cliff, not a slope, and shuts down mid-use. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by a full uninterrupted charge resets the coulomb counter against the new cell's actual curve and eliminates the false cutoff.
Phone stays at a fixed percentage for long stretches, then drops sharply
This is the fuel gauge IC reading stale reference data — it holds a percentage longer than it should because the cell's voltage curve does not match its calibration table. The gauge then corrects itself abruptly when voltage falls outside the expected window. This is not a cell defect. Perform a single full discharge cycle: drain the phone to automatic shutdown, then charge continuously to 100% without interruption. After that cycle, the gauge tracks the new cell accurately and the erratic jumps stop.

Frequently Asked Questions
My BlackBerry Pearl 9100 shuts off at around 25% charge — why does this happen with a new battery?
The Pearl's fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the worn original cell, which had a different voltage discharge curve. When the new cell's voltage drops under modem or screen load, the IC hits its hardware cutoff threshold before the percentage reaches zero. Drain the phone completely to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. That single full cycle recalibrates the coulomb counter against the new cell and stops the premature shutdown.
The Pearl is not powering on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?
A Li-ion cell stored at low charge will self-discharge over time. If voltage has dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a lockout state to prevent unsafe charging and the phone will not respond to a normal boot attempt. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC applies a low-current trickle to bring the cell above the BMS recovery threshold, after which normal charging and boot should resume.
After fitting the F-M1, the Pearl charges very slowly and gets noticeably warm near the battery — is something wrong?
A new Li-ion cell typically has higher internal impedance on the first few charge cycles compared to a broken-in cell. The charge IC responds by pushing slightly higher voltage to maintain current, which generates more heat at the cell surface. This is normal behaviour and settles after two to three full cycles as the cell's impedance drops. If the phone remains warm beyond the third full charge, check that the battery contacts are clean and seated flat — a misaligned contact raises resistance and keeps the charge IC working harder than it should.
