Run one full discharge to near shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% to force the coulomb counter to recalibrate.

Phone warm near the battery during the first charge cycle

New lithium-polymer cells have slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell. During the first charge, the charge IC pushes current into that higher impedance, and some energy converts to heat. This is normal on cycle one and typically settles by cycle two or three. If the phone stays warm past the third full charge, check that fast charging is not active — turn it off in Settings and confirm the charger output matches the OEM 5V/2A spec.
