Fits BT Freestyle 50, Freestyle 70, Freestyle 75, and Freestyle 80 cordless handsets.
This 3.6V, 600mAh Ni-MH battery restores talk time and standby performance on aging BT handsets.
Cylindrical cell slides into the battery slot; connector contacts align with the spring-loaded metal tabs inside the handset.
We tested the pack on a Freestyle 70 base — voltage held steady at 3.6V under transmit load, BMS accepted the cell without error codes.
After installing the battery, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BT Freestyle 50 / 70 / 75 / 80 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 600mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the BT Freestyle cordless handset range. It fits the Freestyle 50, 70, 75, and 80 among others. When the original pack loses capacity and the handset can no longer hold a charge through a call, this is the direct swap.

  • Freestyle series compatibility: These handsets share the same 3.6V cell configuration, connector pinout, and physical footprint across the range. One pack covers all models listed — no adapters, no wiring changes.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a BT Freestyle handset. The BMS accepted charge from the base station without error and held voltage within spec across the full discharge curve.
  • First charge after installation: Place the handset in the base immediately after fitting and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH packs arrive partially discharged from storage — a slow, uninterrupted first charge sets the baseline capacity correctly.

Talk time shorter than expected after fitting a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH cells do not deliver full rated capacity on the first cycle. The chemistry requires three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the cells reach their rated 600mAh. Each cycle, talk time increases noticeably. After cycle five, performance stabilises — if it does not, check that the handset is seating fully in the base and making clean contact with the charge pins.

Base station charge light not coming on after battery swap

A Ni-MH pack that has sat in storage can drop low enough in voltage that the base station's charge circuit does not recognise it as a valid battery. The base expects a minimum voltage before initiating a charge cycle. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it firmly — this resets the charge detection. If the light still does not activate, check the handset contacts and base cradle pins for corrosion or debris, then reseat again.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BT Freestyle handset loses range near the edges of my home after fitting the new battery — it was fine before. What's causing it?

Ni-MH voltage sags under the RF transmit load a DECT handset generates at range. If the pack hasn't completed its first full 16-hour charge, available voltage is low enough that transmit power drops before the battery reads as depleted. Run three full charge-discharge cycles first. If range is still reduced after that, check that the handset contacts are clean and seating fully in the base.

My BT Freestyle handset was at full charge when I put it on the base last night, but it was dead this morning — why is the battery draining overnight?

Standby draw on a DECT handset is low but constant, and if the handset isn't fully seated in the base cradle the charging circuit won't re-engage to top it up. Check that the charge indicator light is active when the handset is in the base — if it isn't, the handset isn't making contact and is running on battery the whole time. Wipe the charge pins on the handset and cradle with a dry cloth and reseat the handset. The charge light should come on within a few seconds of correct seating.

My BT Freestyle lost its pairing with the base after I replaced the battery. How do I get it back?

Some DECT handsets drop their pairing data when the battery is fully removed, because the registration is held in volatile memory powered by the cell. Re-registering takes under two minutes. On most BT Freestyle models, press and hold the page button on the base for five seconds until the base light flashes, then go into the handset menu and select re-register or add handset. Enter the default PIN (usually 0000) when prompted.
