RCA 52320 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 600mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the RCA 52320 cordless phone handset. It fits directly into the handset battery compartment and restores power to a unit that no longer holds a charge. Voltage and cell chemistry match the original RCA specification.

RCA cordless bases use a delta-V detection circuit to confirm a Ni-MH pack is accepting charge. When a battery ships from storage at very low voltage, the base may not detect the expected voltage rise and flags an error instead of starting the charge cycle. The fix is a trickle-start: leave the handset seated in the base for at least 30 minutes without removing it. Once the resting cell voltage climbs above approximately 1.0V per cell — around 3.0V total — the base circuit re-evaluates and begins normal charging.

DECT transmit power on the RCA 52320 is tied directly to supply voltage from the battery. When a Ni-MH pack is partially discharged or not yet conditioned, voltage sags under the RF load of the transmitter, reducing effective output power and shortening usable range. This is not a pairing issue — the handset stays registered, it just loses signal sooner. Run two or three full charge-discharge cycles and check whether range returns to normal before suspecting a hardware fault.
