Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Canon ES-8000V / FV500 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-950)
This is a 7.4V, 4400mAh Li-ion replacement for the Canon BP-950 and BP-950G battery. It fits a wide range of Canon camcorders including the ES-8000V, V50Hi, FV500, and ES-7000es. The cell chemistry and connector match the original spec to work with the camcorder's onboard BMS.
- ES-8000V / FV500 platform fit: These camcorders share the same 7.4V two-cell Li-ion rail and the same BP-950 connector. The BMS on each body reads cell voltage and temperature data through the same pin arrangement, so one battery type serves the full group.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Canon camcorder body. The BMS accepted the battery without fault codes, and the protection circuit triggered correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
- First charge on Canon camcorder bodies: Insert the battery and charge it from within the camera body or Canon OEM charger before your first recording session. Some Canon camcorders require one full internal charge cycle before the battery-remaining indicator maps correctly to the new cell's discharge curve.
Canon BMS rejecting a third-party cell on first install
Canon camcorder bodies run an authentication check when a new battery is inserted. A third-party cell can trigger a "change the battery pack" warning or show no charge indicator on the very first install, even when the cell is fully charged. This is not a defective battery — it is the BMS waiting to complete its first handshake. Charge the battery fully using a Canon OEM charger or inside the camcorder body, then reinsert and power on.
Battery percentage jumping erratically during recording
Canon camcorders map voltage thresholds to display segments calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve. A replacement cell with a slightly different discharge profile causes the indicator to jump — for example, dropping from three bars to one bar quickly, then stabilising. The battery capacity itself is not at fault. Run one full charge-to-cutoff cycle inside the camcorder body and the BMS will recalibrate its threshold mapping to the new cell.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Canon ES-8000V shows "change the battery pack" immediately after inserting this replacement — is the battery dead out of the box?
It is not dead. Canon's BMS runs a voltage and authentication check on every new install, and a replacement cell that hasn't completed a charge cycle inside the body or OEM charger can fail that check even at full charge. Place the battery in a Canon OEM charger or inside the camcorder and run one complete charge cycle before recording. After that cycle, reinsert the battery and the warning should clear.
The battery percentage on my FV500 drops from full to one bar within a few minutes of recording, then holds steady — what's happening?
The camcorder's indicator is calibrated to the discharge curve of Canon's original cell. A replacement cell with a slightly different mid-range voltage profile causes the indicator to fall steeply through the mapped thresholds early, then level out once the curve aligns. Actual capacity is not lost — the display is misreading the state of charge. Complete one full discharge cycle to cutoff inside the camcorder body, then charge fully, and the BMS will remap its thresholds against the new cell's curve.
During extended video recording sessions my Canon camcorder body gets noticeably warm — is this a battery issue or a camera issue?
The heat is coming from the camcorder, not the battery. Sustained video recording puts simultaneous load on the image sensor, processor, and image stabilisation system, and that combined draw generates heat inside the body regardless of which BP-950 cell is installed. Check that the camcorder's ventilation path is unobstructed. If the body reaches thermal cutoff and shuts down, let it cool for ten minutes before restarting — the cutoff threshold is set inside the camera, not the battery protection circuit.
