Fits Canon VIXIA HF M52, HF M50, HF M500, HF M506, and 12 additional camcorder models using BP-745 battery slot.
3.6V, 4450mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 16.02Wh — sustains full autofocus and image stabilisation draw across extended shooting sessions.
Connector slides straight into camcorder battery compartment with spring-loaded locking tab; orientation marked on cell base.
We bench-tested full charge cycles in Canon OEM charger; BMS accepted cell without fault codes on first install.
On first use, run one complete charge cycle through the camera body charger before heavy shooting — Canon camcorder BMS requires internal voltage mapping to display accurate battery remaining percentage on the LCD.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Canon VIXIA HF M52 / HF M50 Series — 3.6V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-745)

This is a 3.6V, 4450mAh Li-ion replacement for the Canon BP-745 battery. It fits the VIXIA HF M52, HF M50, HF M500, and HF M506, along with 12 additional Canon VIXIA models. Capacity matches the original OEM specification at 16.02Wh.

  • VIXIA HF M-series compatibility: These camcorders share the same BP-700 series battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The BP-745 slot accepts this cell without modification across the full HF M50/M500 generation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Canon VIXIA body charger and standalone BP-700 series dock. The BMS accepted the cell on the first charge cycle and reported remaining capacity without fault flags.
  • First-use charge cycle on Canon camcorders: Insert the battery and run a full charge via the Canon charger or camera body before recording. Canon's BMS calibrates the battery-remaining indicator against the cell's discharge curve during that initial cycle — skipping it can cause the display to read inaccurately for the first several uses.

Why the VIXIA HF M52 rejects a new BP-745 cell on first install

Canon's VIXIA BMS runs an authentication check when it sees a new cell. If the resting voltage sits outside the expected acceptance window — typically below 3.2V after storage — the camera may flag it as incompatible or refuse to power on. This is not a faulty cell. Placing the battery in the Canon charger first, rather than the camera body, bypasses the cold-start rejection. Once the cell reaches approximately 3.6V, the camera body will accept it and the error clears.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the VIXIA display

This happens when the camera's fuel gauge hasn't yet mapped its voltage-threshold table to the new cell's discharge curve. The OEM BMS uses stored data from previous cells — a replacement cell with a slightly different curve causes the indicator to skip steps. One complete charge-to-full, record-to-low cycle forces the camera to re-map. After that cycle, the percentage display stabilises. If jumping continues past two full cycles, check that resting voltage is holding above 3.4V with a multimeter.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VIXIA HF M52 shows "No Battery" even though the BP-745 replacement is fully inserted — what's wrong?

The Canon VIXIA BMS runs a voltage handshake on insertion. If the cell's resting voltage dropped below roughly 3.2V during storage, the camera rejects it before it even checks authentication. Pull the battery, place it in a standalone Canon BP-700 series charger for 15–20 minutes, then reinsert into the camera body. That partial charge raises the cell above the acceptance threshold and clears the error.

The battery percentage on my HF M500 jumps from 80% straight to 40% — is the cell defective?

It is not defective. Canon's fuel gauge maps percentage to voltage thresholds calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve. A new replacement cell discharges slightly differently, so the indicator skips steps until the camera relearns it. Run one full charge-to-full, then record until the camera shuts down on low battery. After that single conditioning cycle, the percentage display will track smoothly. If it still jumps after two full cycles, measure resting voltage — it should hold above 3.4V between uses.

The VIXIA HF M52 runs noticeably shorter on a new BP-745 than I expected — is something drawing extra power?

Continuous video recording on the HF M-series draws from multiple subsystems simultaneously — the CMOS sensor, image processor, optical image stabilisation, and the LCD display all pull current at the same time. That combined draw exceeds the single-figure spec most people read. In cooler conditions, Li-ion cells also deliver slightly less usable capacity until they reach operating temperature. Make sure Wi-Fi and the LCD backlight are not set to maximum brightness, as both add measurable draw on top of the recording load.
