Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Canon Legria HF R26 / Vixia HF R20 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-110)

This is a 3.7V, 950mAh (3.52Wh) Li-ion replacement for the Canon BP-110 battery. It fits the Legria HF R26, HF R28, HF R206, Vixia HF R20, and eight additional Canon compact HD camcorder models. The cell matches the original voltage rail and connector footprint of the BP-110.

  • Legria HF R and Vixia HF R platform compatibility: These camcorder models share the same BP-110 battery bay geometry, 3.7V supply rail, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why one cell covers the full range. Swapping between models in this group requires no adapter or wiring change.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Legria HF R-series body. The BMS accepted the cell without rejection, current draw through the sensor and processor stages stayed within spec, and protection circuitry tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff.
  • First charge cycle on the HF R26: On first install, run one full charge cycle through the Canon OEM charger or the camera body itself before shooting. The Legria HF R BMS uses that initial cycle to map the new cell's discharge curve — skipping it can cause the battery-remaining indicator to read inaccurately for the first several uses.

Canon BMS authentication rejecting a BP-110 replacement on first install

The Legria HF R series runs a handshake between the body and battery on power-up. A new third-party cell without a prior charge history can fail this check and display a battery warning or simply not power the body. The fix is straightforward: seat the battery, connect the OEM charger, and run a full charge to 100% before attempting to power on. After that first charge, the BMS logs the cell and the rejection stops.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the Legria HF R26 display

This happens when the camera's voltage-threshold table — calibrated to the original BP-110 discharge curve — maps incorrectly onto a replacement cell with a slightly different curve shape. The indicator may jump from 80% to 40% or stall at a fixed percentage for an extended period. Run two to three full charge-discharge cycles through the camera body to let the BMS recalibrate. After conditioning, the display should track within a few percentage points of actual remaining charge, and voltage at full charge should read approximately 4.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Legria HF R26 shows a battery warning immediately after I insert the new BP-110 replacement — is the cell faulty?

Not necessarily. The HF R26 BMS performs an authentication check on power-up, and a new cell with no charge history often fails it. Seat the battery, plug in the Canon OEM charger, and let it complete a full charge before you try to power on the camera. That first charge cycle registers the cell with the BMS and clears the warning.

The battery percentage on my HF R28 jumps around — it reads 70%, then drops to 20% a few minutes later. What's causing this?

The camera's fuel gauge maps voltage thresholds to percentage bands calibrated for the original BP-110 discharge curve. A replacement cell with a slightly different curve causes the indicator to skip between bands rather than step down smoothly. Run two to three full charge-discharge cycles through the camera body. After conditioning, the gauge recalibrates to the new cell's curve and the jumps stop.

Video recording on my Vixia HF R20 cuts out mid-clip even though the battery indicator still shows charge remaining — why?

This is a low-voltage cutoff trip, not a capacity issue. Under sustained video recording, the HF R-series draws simultaneously from the sensor, processor, image stabilisation, and autofocus systems. That combined load pulls the cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold before the percentage indicator catches up. Check that the cell is fully charged to approximately 4.2V before a long recording session, and avoid starting clips with the indicator already below 30%.
