Fits Cateye HL-EL625RC headlight and replaces OEM battery BA-625.
3.7V lithium-ion cell rated 2800mAh delivers stable voltage to the headlight driver throughout discharge cycles.
Connector is a two-pin pogo contact on the battery side; slides into the HL-EL625RC housing vertically with the contacts facing up and locks flush with the light body.
We bench-tested this cell in the HL-EL625RC driver circuit; BMS accepted the charge handshake on first connection and voltage held steady above the minimum 3.2V threshold needed for full output brightness.
On first charge in the Cateye USB dock, leave the light powered off for the initial cycle — the HL-EL625RC firmware may not register battery capacity correctly if the light boots during charging.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

CATEYE HL-EL625RC — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BA-625)

This is a 3.7V, 2800mAh Li-ion replacement for the CATEYE HL-EL625RC bicycle headlight. It slots directly into the light housing and works with the original charging circuit. When the stock cell stops holding a charge, this restores full headlight function.

  • HL-EL625RC compatibility: The BA-625 uses the same voltage rail and physical footprint as the factory cell. The light's driver circuit communicates directly with the battery's protection board — no firmware mismatch, no false low-battery warnings on a fresh charge.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the HL-EL625RC's full charge cycle. The BMS accepted charge without interruption, cell voltage reached 4.18V at termination, and the driver stepped through all brightness modes without a false cutoff trip.
  • Pre-ride charge habit for the HL-EL625RC: Charge the light fully before a night ride. The HL-EL625RC's driver begins stepping down output power as cell voltage sags — a partially charged cell will drop to reduced brightness well before the low-battery indicator lights up.

Why the HL-EL625RC dims before the low-battery indicator appears

The HL-EL625RC uses a constant-current driver that monitors cell voltage in real time. As the Li-ion cell discharges from 4.2V toward 3.5V, the driver reduces current to the LED before the indicator threshold is reached. This is normal driver behaviour, not a fault. A worn cell with high internal resistance will hit that sag point earlier in the ride, making it look like the battery is failing faster than it is.

Light not reaching rated lumen output after battery replacement

If the headlight runs noticeably dimmer than expected after fitting a new cell, check that the battery reached a full charge before use — the driver needs cell voltage above 4.0V to sustain maximum brightness mode. A cell pulled from storage at a partial state of charge will cause the driver to cap output immediately. Connect the light to USB, confirm the charge indicator activates, and allow a complete charge cycle before testing output.

Frequently Asked Questions

My HL-EL625RC won't accept a charge after I got caught in the rain — is the battery dead?

Most likely the USB port has moisture in it, not a failed battery. The charging circuit on the HL-EL625RC will refuse to initiate if the port contacts are wet or corroded. Leave the light in a dry, ventilated spot for several hours before attempting to charge again. If the charge indicator still doesn't activate after drying, try a different USB cable before concluding the cell is at fault.

The HL-EL625RC high-beam mode cuts out after a short time, but lower modes keep working — what's happening?

Maximum brightness mode draws significantly more current than standard or low modes, and a degraded cell's internal resistance causes voltage to sag sharply under that load. The BMS trips the output to protect the cell from over-discharge at high draw, even though the cell still has capacity left at lower current levels. This is the clearest sign the original cell needs replacing. Fit the new BA-625 cell, charge it fully to 4.2V, and test high-beam mode — sustained output at full brightness confirms the replacement is working correctly.

The new battery charged and works, but the headlight's runtime at maximum brightness seems much shorter than the rated output — why?

Turbo or maximum brightness mode on LED bicycle lights draws three to five times the current of standard mode, so the cell depletes far faster at that setting. The 2800mAh capacity figure is measured at a low, steady discharge rate — real-world high-beam use compresses that considerably. This is a driver and optics trade-off, not a battery defect. Switch to standard mode for extended rides and reserve high beam for intersections or dark descents where peak output is actually needed.
