Fits Chauvin Arnoux 1060, 6430, 5050, 5070 survey instruments; replaces OEM part 2960.21 and 525832D00.
9.6V, 3500mAh Ni-MH pack delivers full capacity across the eight-hour field measurement window without mid-session dropout.
Slide connector accepts the standard Chauvin Arnoux bayonet latch; orientation marked on pack housing; seats flush against instrument rear.
Bench testing shows BMS accepts charge within two cycles and holds voltage stable under sustained sensor load without cutoff events.
Before field deployment, run one full calibration cycle through the instrument menu—the 1060 maps battery state during calibration and skips this step trigger premature low-battery warnings.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Chauvin Arnoux 1060 / 6430 Series — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (2960.21)

This is a 9.6V, 3500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Chauvin Arnoux test and survey instruments. It fits the 1060, 6430, 5050, and 5070 series, among others. OEM part numbers 2960.21 and 525832D00 cross-reference directly to this pack.

  • 1060 / 6430 / 5050 / 5070 compatibility: These models share the same 9.6V rail, connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers the full group without modification or adapter.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack under sustained sensor and probe load. The BMS held steady through probe initialisation spikes and sustained logging draws without tripping into cutoff.
  • Post-install calibration step: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field use. The instrument maps battery state during calibration — skipping it causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

BMS lockout after the instrument sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack drops below approximately 0.9V per cell, the BMS enters a protective sleep state and the instrument shows no response on power-up. A standard charger may refuse to initiate a charge cycle because it reads the pack voltage as too low to be a valid battery. Most smart chargers have a recovery or "boost" mode that applies a low-current trickle until the pack reaches a safe threshold — typically around 8.0V — before switching to normal charge. Once the pack recovers to that level, a standard charge cycle completes normally.

Readings drifting or logging session resetting mid-measurement

Under sustained sensor load — particularly when multiple probe channels are active simultaneously — pack voltage can sag momentarily below the instrument's operating floor. The instrument interprets this voltage dropout as a shutdown event rather than a transient, which resets the active logging session. This is more common with aged cells but can also occur with a new pack that has not been fully conditioned. Run two full charge-discharge cycles before a long field session, and confirm resting voltage sits at or above 9.6V before deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 1060 powers on fine but shuts off the moment I connect the probe or start a measurement — why?

Probe initialisation draws a short current spike that can exceed the BMS trip threshold, especially on a new or recently stored pack. The BMS interprets the spike as an overload and cuts the output before any reading registers. Condition the pack with two full charge-discharge cycles before field use — this stabilises the cells and raises the BMS's effective trip margin. After conditioning, confirm resting voltage reads at or above 9.6V before connecting probes.

The instrument won't charge the new pack at all — the charger light just blinks or shows an error straight away.

If the pack voltage dropped below roughly 8.0V during shipping or storage, the charger's detection circuit sees it as an invalid or faulty battery and refuses to start. Switch your charger to a recovery or trickle mode, which applies a low-current charge until the pack climbs back above the detection threshold. Once the pack reaches approximately 8.0V, the charger will switch to its normal fast-charge cycle automatically. If your charger has no recovery mode, a universal Ni-MH charger with a manual voltage override will handle it.

My 6430 shows a full battery indicator at startup but the percentage drops erratically during a logging session — is the pack faulty?

The instrument's battery indicator recalibrates its voltage thresholds to whichever pack was last used. A new pack with different internal resistance reads differently under load than the old one, so the display percentage jumps until the instrument maps the new cell's discharge curve. Run a complete charge cycle, then discharge the instrument fully through normal use and recharge once before relying on the indicator. After one full cycle, the display stabilises and tracks remaining charge accurately.
