Fits Juniper Mesa 2, MS2, and 7" Mesa 2 handheld GPS receivers; replaces OEM part numbers 25260 and 27575.
This 3.7V, 10400mAh Li-ion cell delivers the capacity needed for full-day field surveying without mid-session power loss during extended mapping sessions.
Connector mates directly to the Mesa 2 battery slot with positive contact on the underside; locking tab seats flush when fully inserted.
We ran the pack through five full charge cycles on Juniper's standard charger; BMS engaged recovery mode after the first insertion and stabilized by cycle two.
After installing this cell, run a full coordinate calibration cycle through the Mesa 2 menu before field deployment — the instrument maps battery voltage during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Juniper Mesa 2 / MS2 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (25260, 27575)

This 3.7V Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Juniper Mesa 2 and MS2 handheld GPS receiver, a field instrument used for surveying, mapping, and geospatial data collection. Capacity is 10400mAh (38.48Wh), matching the standard Mesa 2 battery footprint. It fits the standard Mesa 2 and the 7" Mesa 2 variant.

  • Mesa 2 and 7" Mesa 2 compatibility: Both the standard and 7" Mesa 2 share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — the same pack works across all three designations without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a Mesa 2 charge cycle and monitored BMS handshake at power-on. The protection circuit responded correctly to the instrument's charge termination signal, and cell voltage held within spec across load variation during GPS acquisition and active logging.
  • First deployment on a new pack: After installing, run a full calibration cycle through the Mesa 2 instrument menu before heading into the field. The device maps battery state during that sequence, and skipping it causes premature low-battery warnings during your first survey session even when the pack is near full charge.

Mesa 2 BMS lockout after the pack sat unused in a carry case for months

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the Mesa 2 pack drops below roughly 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters a deep-discharge lockout state and the instrument will not power on or accept a charge. This is a protection function, not cell failure. To recover, connect the Mesa 2 to a wall charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes — the charger applies a low-current trickle that nudges the cell voltage above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.9V per cell. Once the charge LED activates normally, the pack has cleared lockout and will charge to full.

GPS data logging session resets or freezes mid-survey with battery percentage still showing high

Under sustained GPS acquisition combined with active data logging, the Mesa 2 draws more current than during standby — this sustained load can cause a momentary voltage dropout if the cell is aged or the BMS trips on a brief current spike. The instrument interprets this as a power fault and resets, even if the displayed percentage looked healthy moments before. A new pack with full cell capacity handles the sustained draw without the sag that triggers the reset. If the issue persists after fitting a fresh battery, check that the SD card and any connected peripherals are not adding combined draw that pushes the BMS threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Mesa 2 won't turn on at all after the new battery has been sitting in the box for weeks — is the pack dead?

It is not dead. Li-ion packs lose charge during storage, and if the cell voltage dropped low enough, the BMS has entered deep-discharge lockout to protect the cells. Connect the Mesa 2 to a wall charger and leave it for at least 20 minutes without pressing the power button. The charger trickle-feeds current until the cell voltage climbs back above approximately 2.9V per cell, at which point the BMS releases and normal charging resumes.

The Mesa 2 shuts itself off mid-survey when USB is connected to transfer data back to the laptop — battery shows 60% before it dies.

USB data transfer adds a second load path on top of the GPS and display draw. If the cell has any age-related capacity fade, that combined current pull causes a voltage sag the BMS reads as an unsafe condition and it cuts power before the indicator percentage catches up. A fresh 10400mAh pack handles the combined draw without triggering the cutoff. To confirm, transfer data with USB only after the unit has been off GPS acquisition for a minute — this isolates whether the issue is sustained combined draw or a separate USB port fault.

After fitting the new battery, the Mesa 2 keeps showing a low-battery warning within the first hour even though the pack charged overnight.

This happens when the instrument's battery state map is still calibrated to the old, degraded pack. The Mesa 2 records voltage-threshold behaviour over time and carries that profile forward to a new pack, which causes it to misread remaining capacity and trigger early warnings. Run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu — Settings > Device > Battery Calibration or equivalent in your firmware version — before field deployment. The instrument resets its capacity map during that sequence and the percentage readings will stabilise to reflect the actual 10400mAh capacity.
