Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Clevo W217CU / W217 — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (W217BAT-3)
This is an 11.1V 4400mAh (48.84Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Clevo W217CU and W217 notebooks. It replaces OEM part numbers W217BAT-3, W217BAT-6, 6-87-W217S-4D41, and 6-87-W217S-4DF1. Install it when the original cell no longer holds a charge through a normal work session.
- W217 series compatibility: The W217CU and W217 share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — all four OEM part numbers cross to this single replacement cell without any hardware modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a W217 unit, confirmed the BMS handshake completed correctly, and verified the fuel gauge IC updated charge state without throwing a fault code.
- First-cycle reset after install: After fitting this battery, run the laptop down to hibernate cutoff on battery power alone, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the BIOS to complete a battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.
BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after replacement
The W217 BIOS reads health data from an EEPROM register that carries over charge history from the old cell. When a new battery goes in, the BIOS compares the fresh cell against stale cycle count and capacity data — and flags it as degraded. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate then a full uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle, the BIOS recalibrates against the new cell and the health warning clears.
Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge shown on the fuel gauge
This happens because the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated against the old cell's voltage curve. With a new cell installed, the IC misreads where the actual voltage cliff sits — it reports 20–30% remaining at the moment the cell can no longer sustain voltage under full CPU and display load, triggering an immediate shutdown. The fix is three to four full discharge and recharge cycles. After that, the IC maps the new cell's curve correctly and the gauge tracks accurately down toward 0V cutoff, typically around 9.0V at the pack terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Windows show the Clevo W217 battery as "0% available (plugged in)" right after I installed the new cell?
The fuel gauge IC lost its reference point when the old cell was removed and hasn't yet mapped the new cell's voltage range. Windows is reading an uninitialized state register, not an actual charge level. Plug the charger in and leave it connected without interruption until the charge LED goes solid — usually a full charge cycle from flat. After that first complete charge, the fuel gauge IC resets its baseline and Windows reports correctly.
The system info screen shows the wrong Wh rating for the new W217 battery — it says something lower than 48.84Wh. Is the cell defective?
No. The Wh value displayed in system info is pulled from the EEPROM on the battery controller, which stores the rated capacity at time of manufacture. The figure shown may reflect a conservative factory rating or a rounding difference versus the actual electrochemical capacity of the new cell. The cell itself is not underperforming — the EEPROM value is static and does not update to match the installed cell's measured output. Confirm actual capacity by running a full discharge cycle and checking how long the cell sustains load before hitting cutoff.
My W217 new battery stops charging at 80% and never goes higher — is the charger faulty?
The charger is almost certainly fine. The W217 BIOS includes a charge limit setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell wear — it ships enabled on some firmware versions. Go into the BIOS setup utility under the Power or Battery section and check for a charge threshold or battery care mode setting. Disable it or set the upper limit to 100%, save changes, and reboot. The battery will then charge to full on the next cycle.
