Clevo W970KLQ — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (W950BAT-4)

This is a 14.8V, 2200mAh (32.56Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Clevo W970KLQ and W950KU series notebooks. It also fits the W970SUW, W970 LUQ, and sixteen additional Clevo models sharing the same OEM part number W950BAT-4. Install it when the original cell no longer sustains voltage under load.

  • W950/W970 platform fit: These models share the same 14.8V four-cell battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — the W950BAT-4 part number covers the full platform without hardware modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge, discharge, and BMS handshake verification. The protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff and the BIOS recognised the battery as a known cell on reconnect.
  • Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting, run the laptop down to hibernate cutoff under normal workload, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the false health warning that appears after every cell swap on Clevo firmware.

Why the W970KLQ shuts down at 20–30% after a battery swap

The fuel gauge IC on the Clevo motherboard stores learned discharge curves from the previous cell. A new cell has different internal resistance and voltage characteristics at low charge. The BIOS maps the old curve onto the new cell and calls shutdown far too early. One full calibration cycle — discharge to hibernate, then a clean full charge — rewrites that curve and corrects the cutoff point.

BIOS shows battery health as "poor" or capacity as 0% after fitting new cell

This is an EEPROM data mismatch, not a faulty battery. The firmware holds cycle count and health metrics from the old cell in non-volatile memory. Until the BIOS completes a learn cycle against the new cell, it reports stale data. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle, the health indicator should reset to normal.

My Clevo W970KLQ fuel gauge is jumping all over the place — it shows 60%, then drops to 15% within minutes. Is the new battery faulty?

The fuel gauge IC needs calibration cycles against the new cell's chemistry before its readings stabilise. The old EEPROM data skews percentage calculations until the IC builds a fresh discharge profile. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100%. After the second cycle, the gauge should track within a few percent of actual remaining capacity.

The replacement battery isn't charging above 80% — the charge LED stops and Windows shows "plugged in, not charging" past that point.

Clevo firmware on several W-series models includes a BIOS-controlled charge threshold that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell stress — this is a firmware setting, not a battery fault. Enter the BIOS setup utility (F2 at POST), locate the Battery Charge Limit or Smart Charging option, and either disable it or set the target to 100%.

System information shows the wrong Wh rating for the new battery — it lists a different capacity than what's printed on the cell label.

The Wh figure displayed in Windows Device Manager and battery reports is read from EEPROM data embedded in the battery's protection circuit, which stores the rated capacity at manufacture. The actual usable capacity depends on the current cell chemistry and age. The W950BAT-4 is rated at 32.56Wh — if your system reports a meaningfully different value, reset the BIOS battery data by completing one full calibration cycle, then check the reported figure again at 100% charge.
