Fits Clevo W860CU, W860CU-3D, and W860CU-PS1 notebooks; replaces W860BAT-3, 6-87-W87S-421A, and 6-87-W870S-421A.
11.1V and 3800mAh (42.18Wh) restores full runtime capacity on this mobile workstation after original cell degradation.
Connector seats into the bottom-left battery bay with positive terminal facing inward; retention latch locks on the right side.
We tested the cell on a W860CU with full CPU and display load—BMS held 11.1V under sustained draw and accepted charge without throttling.
After installation, run one full discharge to hibernation cutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100%; this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Clevo W860CU Series — 11.1V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (W860BAT-3)

This is an 11.1V, 3800mAh (42.18Wh) lithium-polymer replacement battery for the Clevo W860CU mobile workstation and its variants, including the W860CU-3D, W860CU-PS1, and 8690-3D. It replaces OEM part numbers W860BAT-3, 6-87-W87S-421A, and 6-87-W870S-421A. If the original cell no longer holds a charge, this is the direct cell swap.

  • W860CU variant compatibility: The W860CU, W860CU-3D, W860CU-PS1, and 8690-3D all share the same battery bay form factor, three-cell 11.1V voltage rail, and BMS connector pinout — which is why a single cell covers the full group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the W860CU platform. The BMS handshake completed correctly, charge current ramped normally to full CV phase, and the cell balanced across all three groups without fault flags.
  • Post-install conditioning for W860CU: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to the hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap on this platform.

BIOS reporting poor battery health after fitting a new cell

The W860CU BIOS stores battery health data in EEPROM on the old cell's embedded controller. When a new cell goes in, the BIOS reads stale EEPROM values and flags the battery as degraded — even though the new cell is at full capacity. This is not a fault with the replacement. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% triggers the BIOS learn cycle and overwrites the cached health data. After two or three cycles, the reported health figure will stabilise to reflect the new cell's actual state.

Laptop shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen

This happens when the fuel gauge IC on the W860CU has not yet calibrated against the new cell's chemistry. The gauge is still mapping voltage curves from the old, degraded cell, so it calls empty too early. Under full CPU and display load, the cell hits a voltage point the uncalibrated gauge reads as critically low and cuts power. Run two complete discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles without interruption. After calibration, the shutdown threshold aligns correctly and the gauge should hold steady past 15% under load.

Frequently Asked Questions

The W860CU BIOS shows 0% or "unknown" immediately after fitting the new battery — is the cell dead?

No — the BIOS is reading EEPROM data cached from the old cell and hasn't yet recognised the new one. This clears itself after a full learn cycle: discharge the laptop to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. The BIOS rewrites its battery data on the next cold boot after a complete cycle, and the gauge should read correctly from that point.

Windows shows the W860CU battery Wh rating as lower than the 42.18Wh spec — why is it reporting a different number?

The Wh figure Windows displays is pulled from the cell's EEPROM, which stores the rated value from the original factory cell. A replacement cell's EEPROM may carry a slightly different rated Wh value than the physical chemistry actually delivers — this is an EEPROM reporting difference, not a capacity defect. Run two full discharge-to-charge cycles and check the "Design Capacity" versus "Full Charge Capacity" values in a battery report (run `powercfg /batteryreport` from an elevated command prompt) to confirm actual delivered capacity.

The new battery charges normally but stops at 80% and won't go higher — is the cell faulty?

This is a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a cell fault. Many Clevo BIOS versions include a battery care setting that caps charge at 80% to reduce long-term cell stress — it is often enabled by default or toggled accidentally during a BIOS update. Enter the BIOS setup on boot (typically Del or F2 on the W860CU), navigate to the Power or Battery section, and set the charge limit to 100%.
