Fits Cobra CP471, CP472, CP473, CP474 cordless phone handsets; replaces OEM battery 3.6V Ni-MH packs.
3.6V 400mAh Ni-MH delivers the voltage DECT base stations require to confirm charge acceptance and full handset pairing.
Connector slides vertically into handset battery slot with flat contact alignment; locking tab seats flush against housing.
We tested the pack on a CP471 base charger; BMS accepted voltage within two cycles and showed no fault light.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — NiMH cordless phone batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cobra CP471 / CP472 / CP473 / CP474 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 400mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Cobra cordless phone models CP471, CP472, CP473, and CP474. It fits the handset battery compartment and restores power to the cordless unit. Voltage and form factor match the original pack at 49.60 x 33.62 x 6.70mm.

  • CP471–CP474 shared platform: These four Cobra models run on the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH architecture and use the same handset battery bay. The voltage rail, cell count, and connector position are identical across the range, so one pack covers all four.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through the CP471 handset and confirmed the base station accepted the charge state without error. The BMS on these phones is simple — it charges by voltage threshold, so the cell quality matters more than handshake logic.
  • First charge on Ni-MH handsets: Place the handset in the base for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells at storage charge sit below rated capacity. The slow overnight charge lets the cells reach their full 400mAh before you start cycling them.

Range dropping mid-call after a battery swap

The CP471 transmitter draws a sharp burst of current when maintaining DECT signal at distance. A Ni-MH cell that hasn't been conditioned will sag in voltage under that RF load. When voltage dips below roughly 3.2V under load, the handset reduces transmit power or drops the call. Run three to five full charge and discharge cycles first — range stabilises once the cells reach rated capacity.

Handset not pairing with base after battery replacement

Removing the battery on some Cobra DECT handsets wipes the stored pairing data — the phone loses its link to the base entirely. This is not a battery fault. Re-register the handset using the base station pairing button, which is usually held for three seconds until the base indicator flashes. Once paired, the handset reconnects at full power.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Cobra CP471 talk time is much shorter than the original battery — is the new pack defective?

It's not defective. Ni-MH cells ship at partial charge and need three to five full cycles before reaching rated capacity. Each full charge and discharge cycle conditions the cells closer to their 400mAh rating. Run the handset down until it beeps for low battery, then return it to the base for a full charge — repeat that process five times before judging talk time.

The base station shows a charging error light after I installed the replacement battery — why?

Cobra bases check incoming voltage before accepting a charge. A Ni-MH pack that has sat in storage drops to a low resting voltage that the base reads as a fault. Take the handset off the base, leave it off for 30 seconds, then reseat it firmly so the contacts align. If the error persists, the pack voltage is likely below the acceptance threshold — place it in a known-working Cobra handset first to warm the cells, then return it to the CP471 base.

The battery drains overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what's causing that?

This is a contact or seating issue, not a cell fault. If the handset isn't fully seated, the base never enters trickle-charge mode and the handset runs on its own battery in standby. Check that the handset clicks or sits flush in the cradle and that the charge contacts on both the handset and base are clean and free of oxidation. Wipe the contacts with a dry cloth and reseat the handset — the charge indicator light on the base should illuminate within 30 seconds of correct seating.
