Gte Space M 2 / Starmate — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 3.6V 400mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Gte Space M 2 and Starmate cordless DECT handsets. It slots into the handset battery compartment and restores wireless operation when the original cell no longer holds a charge. Voltage and form factor match the OEM pack at 49.60 x 33.62 x 6.70mm.
- Space M 2 and Starmate compatibility: Both handsets run the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH rail with identical connector orientation and compartment dimensions. One battery fits both without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a NiMH-compatible test rig. The BMS accepted charge current from cycle one, and cell voltage stabilised within the 1.2V-per-cell nominal range under light RF load.
- First-charge requirement for NiMH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base station and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need a slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping this step will leave the pack underperforming for several cycles.
Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement
NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state and require three to five full charge-discharge cycles before reaching rated capacity. On cycle one, you may see noticeably reduced talk time — this is normal cell behaviour, not a fault. Each subsequent full cycle builds electrode capacity incrementally. By cycle five, the pack should be delivering close to its rated 400mAh output.
Base station showing no charge light or error after battery swap
NiMH packs stored at the warehouse can drop below the voltage threshold the base station uses to confirm a valid battery is present. If the base shows no charge indicator or flashes an error light, remove the handset and hold the power button for five seconds to fully discharge any residual voltage. Re-seat it in the base — the base should then detect the pack and begin the charge cycle. If voltage was the issue, the charge light will appear within two minutes.
