Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

COMEN S6 / S8 Monitor Defibrillator — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CMLI3X4I001B)
This 14.4V, 6800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the internal power cell in the COMEN S6 patient monitor, S6 Defibrillator, and S8 Monitor Defibrillator. It matches OEM part numbers CMLI3X4I001B, 022-000176-00, CMLI3X4I003B, CMLI2X4I005B, and variants across the S-series platform. Voltage and connector are matched to the original specification — no modification required for installation.
- S6 and S8 platform compatibility: The S6 monitor, S6 Defibrillator, and S8 Monitor Defibrillator share the same 14.4V battery architecture and BMS handshake protocol. One cell format covers the full range because the charge management IC and connector pinout are identical across these units.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge, load, and cutoff cycles. The BMS flagged cell authentication correctly, held voltage within the expected discharge curve, and tripped the low-voltage cutoff at the correct threshold without nuisance shutdowns.
- Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, allow the COMEN device to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The monitor runs BMS verification at startup — cutting power during this sequence triggers a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.
Why the COMEN S6 alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The S6's BMS stores charge acceptance data from the previous cell. When a new cell is installed, the stored reference no longer matches the actual chemistry profile, so the monitor interprets the new cell as degraded. This clears after one complete charge-discharge cycle, which lets the BMS recalibrate its capacity registers. Do not use the unit clinically until that first full cycle is complete — the alarm will clear on its own without any menu reset.
COMEN S6 not completing boot sequence after battery swap
If the cell sat in storage, self-discharge can push resting voltage below the S6's BMS recovery threshold — typically under 10.8V for a 14.4V pack. At that voltage, the BMS latches into protection mode and the device stalls before the boot screen fully loads. Connect the unit to mains power and leave it on charge for a minimum of two hours before attempting to power on from battery alone. Once the cell recovers above 12V, the BMS releases and the boot sequence completes normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
The COMEN S6 is showing a low battery alarm straight after I fully charged this replacement — is something wrong with the cell?
Nothing is wrong with the cell. The S6's BMS holds capacity reference data from the old battery, and a new cell's charge profile doesn't match that stored data yet. The monitor flags it as degraded until it learns the new cell. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle without interrupting the device, and the alarm will stop triggering. Do not place the unit in clinical service until that first cycle is finished.
My COMEN S6 shuts off unexpectedly during patient monitoring even though the battery shows a reasonable charge level.
The S6's load profile during active monitoring — particularly when the defibrillator circuit is on standby — draws harder than a standard discharge test. New cells in their first ten cycles haven't yet reached full electrochemical conditioning, so voltage sag under that load can briefly dip below the BMS cutoff threshold and trigger a shutdown. The fix is to complete several full charge-discharge cycles before clinical use so the cell's internal resistance stabilises. After conditioning, the sag margin recovers and mid-session shutdowns stop.
The charge indicator on the COMEN S6 won't reach 100% on the first charge with this new battery — it stops at 90–95% and stays there.
The S6's charge IC applies a conservative upper current limit when it detects an unfamiliar cell, which causes it to terminate the charge cycle slightly early on the first pass. This is a protection behaviour, not a fault. Run the battery down to the low-battery threshold through normal use, then charge it fully from flat. The charge IC recalibrates its termination point on the second cycle and the indicator will reach 100% correctly from that point forward.
