Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage, and if voltage drops below roughly 5.4V the BMS enters a protection state and refuses to initiate a normal boot. The pump will show no response or a blank screen. Place the battery on charge for a minimum of 30 minutes before attempting to power on — this brings the cell above the BMS recovery threshold. If the device still does not boot after a full charge, check that the battery contacts are seated and clean.

Run one complete charge-discharge cycle on the device before treating the alarm as meaningful. After that cycle the BMS calibrates to the new cell and the alarm clears.
The Perfusor FM powers on but shuts off unexpectedly during infusion — could the new battery be causing this?
New Ni-MH cells handle the pump's load profile less efficiently in the first 10 cycles while the cell chemistry stabilises. The BMS may interpret a voltage sag under load as a low-cell condition and trigger a protective shutdown. This is more common with syringe pumps than other device classes because the motor draw is constant and unforgiving. Complete at least three full charge-discharge cycles before placing the device in clinical rotation.
The charge indicator on the Perfusor FM never reaches 100% on the first charge with the new battery — should we keep charging?

This is the charge controller being cautious, not a defect. Let the device complete the charge cycle uninterrupted, then discharge and recharge fully once more.
