Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Coolpad Defiant / BTR3635A — 3.85V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CPLD-417)
This is a 3.85V, 2200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Coolpad Defiant smartphone. It uses OEM part number CPLD-417 and also fits the BTR3635A variant. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a charge or causes unexpected shutdowns.
- Defiant and BTR3635A fit: Both models run the same 3.85V power rail and share an identical connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol, which is why a single cell covers both.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the Defiant platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and the charge IC cycled cleanly through trickle, constant-current, and constant-voltage stages.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, disable fast charging for the first complete discharge-charge cycle. The fuel gauge IC needs one full cycle against the new cell's discharge curve before it can report accurate percentages — running fast charge into an uncalibrated cell skews the coulomb counter.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on a freshly installed cell
This is a voltage cliff problem, not a capacity problem. Under peak modem or display load, the new cell's voltage drops faster than the fuel gauge IC expects based on the old cell's curve. The Defiant's power management IC interprets the voltage sag as a critically low cell and triggers a hard shutdown before the reported percentage reaches zero. One full discharge-to-shutdown and recharge cycle forces the fuel gauge to relearn the new cell's voltage-versus-capacity curve. After that recalibration cycle, the shutdowns stop and percentage readings stabilise.
OS battery percentage jumping or stuck after replacement
The Defiant's fuel gauge IC stores the discharge curve of the original cell in memory. When a new cell goes in, the stored curve no longer matches the actual cell behaviour, so percentage readings jump, stall, or freeze — typically between 40% and 80%. The fix is a full uninterrupted discharge down to auto-shutdown, then a full charge to 100% with the screen off. That single cycle resets the coulomb counter and aligns the IC to the new cell. After one complete cycle, readings should track smoothly within 3–5% accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Coolpad Defiant won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is the cell dead?
Probably not dead — the BMS has locked out the cell because it discharged below 2.5V during storage. Plug the phone into a wall charger (not a PC port) and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC needs to push a low trickle current through the BMS lockout before the cell voltage recovers enough to allow a normal boot. If the battery icon appears on screen, even briefly, the cell is recovering — keep it on charge until it reaches at least 3.6V before attempting to power on.
Fast charging stopped working after I put in the new CPLD-417 — the phone only charges slowly now.
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the Defiant's charge IC runs a compatibility handshake with the new BMS. Until that handshake completes successfully, the charger falls back to standard 5V/1A to avoid pushing high current into an unverified cell. Let the phone complete one full charge to 100% on the standard rate, then disconnect and drain it to auto-shutdown. Reconnect your fast charger after that full cycle — the BMS flags the cell as verified and the fast-charge protocol re-enables automatically.
The Defiant gets noticeably warm near the battery area during the first few charges with the new cell — is that normal?
Yes, and it's specific to the first few cycles on a new high-impedance cell. A fresh Li-ion cell has slightly higher internal resistance than a broken-in one, so the charge IC dissipates more energy as heat during the constant-current phase. The warmth should reduce by the third full charge cycle as internal resistance drops. If the phone is hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold after cycle three, check that the charge IC is not stuck in fast-charge mode by verifying the battery settings show a charge rate below 2A.
