Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Creative Zen Neeon Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BA20603R79906)
This 3.7V, 1350mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the original cell in the Creative Zen Neeon, Zen Neeon 2, and Zen Neeon DAP-MD0005 portable media players. OEM part number BA20603R79906. When the original cell degrades and the player no longer holds a charge, this is the direct swap.
- Zen Neeon and Neeon 2 compatibility: Both models use the same 3.7V single-cell Li-Polymer pack with identical connector pinout and physical footprint — 60.99 × 34.36 × 3.62mm. The BMS thresholds and cutoff voltages are shared across the Neeon series, so one cell fits all three listed variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Zen Neeon platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and low-voltage cutoff engaged cleanly at 3.0V without causing a hard shutdown loop.
- Post-swap initialisation tip: After fitting this cell, run a full charge before the first playback session. Media players in this class recalibrate their voltage-threshold fuel gauge on the first complete charge cycle — skipping this step causes the battery indicator to read inaccurately for several sessions.
Battery percentage jumping around after a cell swap on the Zen Neeon
The Zen Neeon uses a voltage-threshold method to estimate charge level — it maps measured cell voltage to a percentage rather than tracking actual coulombs in and out. After a new cell is fitted, the firmware's stored voltage reference points no longer match the new cell's discharge curve. This causes the percentage to jump or drop erratically during the first few charge cycles. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles and the indicator stabilises as the firmware relearns the cell's voltage behaviour.
Playback cutting out before the battery indicator reaches empty
The audio amplifier in the Zen Neeon draws a brief current spike each time output level changes. In an aged or partially discharged cell, internal resistance is high enough that this spike causes the cell voltage to sag below the BMS cutoff threshold — even if the displayed percentage still shows charge remaining. The player interprets this voltage dip as a dead cell and shuts down. A fresh cell with lower internal resistance eliminates the sag; confirm the replacement cell is fully charged to 4.2V before testing.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Zen Neeon won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer for months — is it dead?
Almost certainly a deep discharge protection state, not a dead player. Li-Polymer cells that drop below roughly 2.5V lock out normal charging as a safety measure. Connect the Zen Neeon to its charger and leave it for 30–45 minutes without attempting to power it on — the charger applies a trickle current that slowly brings the cell voltage back into the normal charging window. Once the cell reaches approximately 3.0V, normal charging resumes and the player powers on as expected.
The battery percentage on my Zen Neeon drops suddenly from around 20% straight to zero and shuts off — why?
This is voltage sag under load from a worn cell with elevated internal resistance. At low charge levels, the cell voltage sits close to the BMS cutoff threshold. The audio amplifier's current draw pulls the voltage below that cutoff for a fraction of a second, and the player shuts down to protect the cell. A replacement cell with lower internal resistance holds voltage steady under the same load — after fitting this battery, run it through a full charge cycle before testing playback to confirm the cutoff trigger is gone.
After replacing the battery, my Zen Neeon shows a full charge immediately but then drops to 50% within minutes of playing — what's happening?
The firmware's voltage-to-percentage map was calibrated to the worn cell it just replaced. The new cell has a different resting voltage at each charge state, so the readings are misaligned until the firmware recalibrates. Run the battery from a full 4.2V charge down to automatic shutoff twice without interrupting playback mid-cycle. After two complete cycles, the indicator catches up to the actual cell behaviour and reads accurately.
