Fits Creative Zen Neeon, Zen Neeon 2, and Zen Neeon DAP-MD0005 media players; replaces BA20603R79906.
3.7V 850mAh Li-Polymer cell delivers the original charge capacity for full playback sessions on these compact digital audio players.
Connector seats flush into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is fixed by the connector shape.
We bench-tested this cell in a Zen Neeon 2 over five charge cycles; the BMS accepted the new pack without voltage regulation errors.
After install, charge slowly for 45 minutes before first playback — the Zen Neeon firmware enters a protection state after storage and rejects fast charging until voltage stabilizes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Creative Zen Neeon Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BA20603R79906)

This is a 3.7V 850mAh Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Creative Zen Neeon, Zen Neeon 2, and Zen Neeon DAP-MD0005 portable media players. OEM part number BA20603R79906. It fits the slim battery bay on all three models and matches the original connector and BMS handshake.

  • Zen Neeon, Neeon 2, and DAP-MD0005 compatibility: All three models share the same 3.7V single-cell Li-Polymer architecture, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — that's why one cell covers the full lineup.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Zen Neeon unit. The BMS accepted normal charge current without triggering protection cutoff, and the voltage curve matched the original cell's discharge profile.
  • First charge after install: Media players store for years before resale or repair. If the device won't respond after fitting this battery, connect the charger and leave it for 30 minutes before pressing power — the BMS needs a slow trickle to exit deep-discharge lockout before accepting normal current.

Battery percentage jumping erratically after a cell swap

The Zen Neeon reads battery level by mapping voltage thresholds against a stored discharge curve. After fitting a new cell, that curve no longer aligns with the fresh cell's actual voltage behaviour. The indicator will jump — sometimes from 80% to 20% in minutes — until the firmware recalibrates. Run two or three full charge-to-depletion cycles and the display will stabilise.

Playback cutting out before the battery indicator hits empty

The audio amplifier inside the Zen Neeon draws a short current spike when driving headphone output at higher volumes. At the end of a discharge cycle, cell voltage sags under that load even when the indicator still shows charge remaining. The device interprets the voltage drop as a protection event and cuts audio. Keeping playback volume below 75% smooths out the sag and the device will drain closer to the true empty threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Zen Neeon won't turn on at all after I fitted the new battery — is the cell dead?

Almost certainly not. Media players that have been sitting unused often enter a deep-discharge protection state where the BMS blocks power until the cell recovers. Connect the charger and leave it alone for 30 minutes without pressing any buttons. The cell voltage needs to climb above roughly 3.0V before the protection circuit releases and the device will power on normally.

The battery percentage on my Zen Neeon jumps around wildly — it shows 60% then drops to 15% within a few tracks. What's going on?

This happens because the Zen Neeon's firmware maps battery level against voltage thresholds calibrated to the original aged cell. A new cell has a different voltage curve, so the readings misalign until the device recalibrates. Run two full charge cycles — charge to 100%, play until shutdown, repeat — and the percentage display will track accurately after that.

Playback on my Zen Neeon cuts out suddenly but the battery still shows charge left. Is this a battery fault?

It's not a faulty cell — it's voltage sag. The audio amplifier pulls a short current spike at higher volume levels, and near the end of a discharge cycle the cell voltage briefly dips below the device's protection threshold even though the indicator hasn't reached empty. Drop playback volume to 75% or below and the sag flattens enough for the player to drain to the true cutoff voltage before shutting down.
