This is an 11.1V 3900mAh (43.29Wh) Li-Polymer cell for the Dell Inspiron 11 3147, Inspiron 13 7347, Inspiron 15 7568, and related 3000/7000 series notebooks. It replaces OEM part GK5KY and cross-references including 451-BBKK, 4K8YH, and RHN1C. Fits the P20T platform shared across these slim-chassis Dell lines.

  • Inspiron 3147 / 7347 / 7568 platform fit: These models share the P20T board platform and use the same 11.1V three-cell Li-Polymer pack with an identical connector pinout and BMS communication protocol. One battery covers the full range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a 3147 unit and confirmed the BMS handshake completed correctly — the system accepted the pack, the charge IC activated, and the fuel gauge began tracking state of charge from the first cycle. Laptop shuts down at 20–30% remaining after battery swap

The Inspiron's fuel gauge IC was calibrated against the old cell's discharge curve. When a new cell is installed, the IC has no reference data — it predicts cutoff too early based on stale voltage thresholds. The new cell hits a voltage cliff under combined CPU and display load that the IC misreads as empty. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted full charges. After the second cycle the gauge recalibrates and the early shutdowns stop.

BIOS reports a different Wh rating than the OEM spec

The Wh value shown in Dell's battery report pulls from the cell's EEPROM, which stores the design capacity programmed at manufacture. Replacement cells may carry a slightly different EEPROM value than the original GK5KY pack, even when the actual chemistry and capacity match. This is a data field difference, not a fault. Confirm the pack is charging normally and reaching full voltage — 12.6V across the three cells at 100% SoC.

My Dell Inspiron 3147 shows the new battery as "unknown" or 0% in Windows right after install — what's happening?

The fuel gauge IC on the motherboard is reading EEPROM data from the new cell for the first time and has no discharge history to reference. Windows reports 0% or unknown until the IC completes its first calibration pass. Plug in the charger, let it charge uninterrupted to 100%, then run the laptop on battery until it hibernates. After that full cycle the gauge initialises correctly and the percentage reads accurately.

The Inspiron 3147 charges to 80% then stops — is the replacement cell faulty?

This is a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a cell fault. Dell ships several Inspiron models with a battery conservation mode enabled by default that caps charging at 80% to reduce long-term wear. Open Dell Power Manager (or check BIOS under Power Management) and set the charge limit to "Primarily AC" or 100%. The cell itself charges to full capacity once that firmware cap is lifted.

After swapping the battery, Dell's system report shows a Wh rating lower than the original GK5KY spec — does that mean the cell is underspec?

The Wh figure in Dell's battery report reads from the EEPROM field on the cell, not from a live measurement. Replacement cells can carry a different programmed design capacity in that field while still delivering the correct 43.29Wh of usable energy. Check the actual charge behaviour — a healthy cell reaches 12.6V across all three series cells at 100% SoC. If voltage and charge behaviour are normal, the EEPROM figure is a labelling difference only.
