Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dell Latitude 7285 — 7.6V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (YX0XH)
This is a 7.6V, 4250mAh (32.3Wh) Li-Polymer battery for the Dell Latitude 7285 2-in-1 detachable. It fits the keyboard base unit of the Latitude 7285 — not the tablet portion. Compatible OEM part numbers include YX0XH, WYCVV, C668F, and T16KJ.
- Latitude 7285 keyboard base compatibility: The 7285 splits power between the tablet and keyboard dock. This cell powers the base unit only. It runs the same 7.6V rail and connector pinout as the original, including the BMS data lines the Dell EC uses to read charge state.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a Latitude 7285 base unit and confirmed the BMS handshake completed without error. The EC recognised the battery, charge current ramped correctly, and the fuel gauge initialised without a fault code.
- BIOS learn cycle after install: After fitting this cell, run the laptop down to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle. Without it, the system reports inaccurate health data because it is still reading calibration values from the old cell.
BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after replacement
Dell's EC reads health data from EEPROM registers on the battery controller, not just live voltage. When you swap cells, the BIOS compares the new cell's reported parameters against the stored history from the old pack. Until a full learn cycle runs, it flags health as poor or unknown. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% writes new baseline data. After that cycle, the health warning clears on the next boot.
Latitude 7285 base battery showing 0% or "plugged in, not charging" after swap
This usually means the BMS handshake stalled during the first connection. The Dell EC can lock charge current if it does not receive a valid response from the battery controller within a set window. Disconnect the base from the tablet, remove the battery connector, wait 30 seconds, then reconnect. If the issue persists, check the connector pins on the keyboard base — a bent pin on the data line prevents the BMS from completing authentication. The charge line activates once the EC sees a valid voltage response, typically above 3.0V per cell.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Latitude 7285 shuts down at around 25% battery shown — why does this happen with a new cell?
The fuel gauge IC on the keyboard base is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. Under full CPU and display load, the new cell hits a voltage cliff that the old calibration does not predict accurately. The system interprets this as a hard cutoff before the percentage reaches zero. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by complete uninterrupted charges — after that, the gauge re-maps to the new cell's curve and the early shutdowns stop.
The Latitude 7285 charge stops at 80% and won't go higher — is this a faulty cell?
This is almost always a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a battery fault. Dell laptops ship with a setting in BIOS called "Primary Battery Charge Configuration" that caps charge at 80% when set to "Express Charge" or a custom threshold. Go into BIOS setup at boot, navigate to Power Management, and set the charge configuration to "Adaptive" or "Standard." The cell itself charges to 100% — the cap is firmware-side.
System information shows the wrong Wh rating for the replacement battery — it says something different from the original spec sheet.
The Wh figure shown in system info is read from the EEPROM on the battery controller, which stores the rated design capacity rather than the actual measured capacity of the installed cell. Small differences between the EEPROM-declared value and the product data spec are normal across cell batches. The actual usable energy in this pack is 32.3Wh. If the figure shown is significantly lower than that, run a full discharge and recharge cycle — this triggers the EC to re-read the EEPROM registers and refresh what Windows displays.
