Fits HP ZBook x2 and ZBook x2 G4; replaces DN04XL, HSTNN-DB7P, 856301-2C1, 856843-850, 856543-855.
15.4V and 4500mAh capacity delivers 69.3Wh — matches OEM output for full-load CPU and display draw.
Connector seats into the proprietary HP dock slot with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We ran full discharge cycles on the x2 dock — BMS engaged low-voltage cutoff at 10.5V with no premature cell disconnect.
After install, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100%; this resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears inaccurate health warnings.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP ZBook x2 G4 — 15.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (DN04XL)

This is a 15.4V, 4500mAh (69.3Wh) lithium-polymer replacement battery for the HP ZBook x2 and ZBook x2 G4 detachable mobile workstation. It replaces OEM part numbers DN04XL, HSTNN-DB7P, 856301-2C1, 856843-850, and 856543-855. If the original cell has degraded and the system no longer holds a charge under workstation loads, this cell restores full capacity.

  • ZBook x2 and x2 G4 fitment: Both the standard ZBook x2 and the G4 revision use the same DN04XL battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers both generations.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge initiation, BMS communication handshake, and load cycling under CPU and display draw. The BMS accepted the cell, reported state-of-charge correctly, and the protection circuit held voltage within spec across the discharge curve.
  • First-cycle recalibration on the ZBook x2: After installing, run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the BIOS battery learn cycle to reset against the new cell's actual capacity and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears on first boot after any cell swap.

Why the ZBook x2 shuts down at 20–30% after a battery swap

The ZBook x2 stores discharge curve data in EEPROM from the previous cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual voltage behaviour of the replacement chemistry. Under full CPU plus display load, the BIOS hits a voltage floor it recognises as empty — even though the gauge still shows 20–30%. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate and one uninterrupted full charge resets the learned curve and eliminates the premature shutdown.

BIOS showing 0% or "unknown battery" immediately after installation

This happens because the fuel gauge IC on the new cell holds EEPROM data that does not yet match what the HP firmware expects after initialisation. The system cannot read a valid state-of-charge, so it reports 0% or flags the battery as unknown rather than displaying actual charge level. Connect the AC adapter and allow the cell to charge without interruption to 100% — this triggers the BIOS battery learn cycle and writes fresh calibration data to the fuel gauge IC. After one complete charge-discharge cycle, the reading stabilises and the unknown flag clears.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ZBook x2 fuel gauge is jumping around — showing 60%, then 40%, then back up — is the new battery faulty?

The fuel gauge IC needs calibration cycles against the new cell's actual discharge curve before readings stabilise. The EEPROM in the old cell held learned data that no longer applies. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100%. After the second cycle, the gauge IC locks onto the new curve and the erratic readings stop.

Why does the ZBook x2 BIOS report a lower Wh rating than the 69.3Wh listed on the battery label?

The BIOS reads the Wh value stored in the cell's EEPROM, which reflects the OEM-rated figure at time of manufacture — this can differ slightly from the measured capacity of the actual chemistry in the replacement cell. The discrepancy is a data field mismatch, not a capacity defect. No action is needed; the cell delivers its full rated energy regardless of what the BIOS info screen displays.

The ZBook x2 charges to 80% and then stops — the indicator light stays on but percentage never moves.

The HP ZBook x2 BIOS includes a charge limit setting that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell stress during extended AC use. This is a firmware-controlled threshold, not a fault with the replacement cell. Open HP Support Assistant or the BIOS power settings, locate the Battery Health Manager option, and switch it from "Maximize my battery health" to "Let HP manage my battery" or "Maximize my battery performance" to restore charging to 100%.
