Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HP EliteBook 1040 G4 — 11.55V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BE06XL)
This is an 11.55V, 5700mAh (65.84Wh) Li-Polymer replacement battery for the HP EliteBook 1040 G4 laptop. It replaces OEM part numbers BE06XL, 918045-1C1, 918108-855, HSTNN-DB7Y, and related variants. The battery slots into the 1040 G4 chassis and connects via the original multi-pin BMS connector.
- EliteBook 1040 G4 platform fit: All 1040 G4 variants — including 2XU40UT, 2TM97EA, and 4SB30UT — share the same 11.55V three-cell Li-Polymer configuration, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers the full variant range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a 1040 G4 unit under combined CPU load and full display brightness. The BMS held steady through charge and discharge cycles, with no unexpected cutoffs at high draw.
- Post-install calibration on the 1040 G4: After fitting, run the laptop down to hibernate cutoff on battery only, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the BIOS battery learn cycle to reset against the new cell and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.
BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after fitting a new cell
The HP BIOS stores battery health data in EEPROM and compares the new cell's reported charge state against a degraded baseline from the old pack. Until the learn cycle completes, the BIOS treats the new cell as faulty. This is a firmware calibration issue, not a cell defect. Run one full discharge to hibernate threshold followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% — the health warning typically clears within one to three complete cycles.
Laptop shuts down at 20–30% battery shown on screen
This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's voltage curve. Under full CPU and display load, actual cell voltage drops faster than the gauge expects, triggering an emergency shutdown before the displayed percentage reaches zero. The gauge needs recalibration cycles against the new cell to map the voltage cliff accurately. Run two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles — after that, the shutdown threshold and the displayed percentage should align.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Windows show the new battery as "0% available (plugged in, not charging)" right after installation?
The HP BIOS occasionally locks the charge circuit when it cannot read valid EEPROM data from a new cell — it sees an unknown pack and holds the charger off as a protection measure. Shut the laptop down fully, remove the AC adapter for 30 seconds, then reconnect AC before powering on. If the issue persists, enter the BIOS setup utility (F10 at boot) and let it sit on AC power for five minutes — this forces the BMS handshake to re-initialise and typically clears the lock.
The battery Wh rating shown in HP Support Assistant is lower than the 65.84Wh on the product listing — is something wrong with the cell?
Nothing is wrong. HP Support Assistant reads the Wh value from the battery's EEPROM, which stores the OEM-rated capacity at the time of manufacture. The 65.84Wh figure is the actual measured energy content of this cell's chemistry. EEPROM-reported values and real cell capacity differ because cell chemistry tolerances vary slightly between production runs. The discrepancy does not affect charging behaviour or available power — check Device Manager to confirm the cell is recognised and charging normally.
New battery charges to 100% once, but subsequent charges stop at 80% and won't go higher — what's causing it?
The HP EliteBook 1040 G4 ships with a BIOS-controlled battery charge limit, often called "Battery Health Manager," set to 80% by default on some firmware builds. This is a firmware setting, not a fault with the replacement cell. Open HP BIOS Setup (F10 at boot), navigate to Power > Battery Health Manager, and switch from "Let HP manage my battery charging" to "Maximize my battery." The charge ceiling moves to 100% immediately on the next charge cycle.
