Fits Dell Vostro 1400 and Inspiron 1420 notebooks; replaces OEM part numbers WW116, FT080, FT095, MN151, and MN154.
11.1V, 6600mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 73.26Wh — adequate for standard office workloads on these mid-2000s chassis.
Connector slides straight into the battery bay slot with a single locking tab on the left side; orientation is keyed.
We bench-tested this cell against the original WW116 BMS profile — charge acceptance was normal, no early cutoff or voltage drift during discharge cycles.
After installation, run one full discharge to hibernation cutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the Dell BIOS battery learn cycle and clears inaccurate health warnings.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dell Vostro 1400 / Inspiron 1420 — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (WW116)

This is an 11.1V, 6600mAh (73.26Wh) Li-ion battery for the Dell Vostro 1400 and Inspiron 1420 notebooks. It replaces OEM part numbers WW116, FT080, FT095, MN151, MN154, and the 312-0xxx series. If your original cell is swelling, dropping charge rapidly, or refusing to hold power under load, this is the direct swap.

  • Vostro 1400 and Inspiron 1420 platform fit: Both models run on the same 11.1V three-cell battery rail, share the same 9-pin SMBus connector, and use the same Dell BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers both chassis without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a Vostro 1400 unit. The BMS communicated charge state correctly, the Dell power manager recognised the cell without error flags, and voltage held steady across CPU stress and display-on load.
  • BIOS learn cycle after installation: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the Dell BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

Why the Vostro 1400 shuts down at 20–30% remaining after a battery swap

The Vostro 1400 BIOS maps the fuel gauge against discharge curves stored from the previous cell. When a new cell is installed, the old curve no longer matches actual cell chemistry, so the BIOS calls a voltage cliff earlier than the true empty point. Under full load — CPU boost plus display backlight — the new cell's voltage drops faster than the stale curve predicts, triggering an emergency shutdown. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by uninterrupted charges to 100%. After that, the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell and the early shutdowns stop.

Dell showing wrong Wh rating in system info after fitting a replacement cell

The Wh value displayed in Dell's battery meter comes from EEPROM data written at the factory, not from real-time cell measurement. A replacement cell's EEPROM may report a rated Wh figure that differs slightly from the 73.26Wh actual capacity of this battery. This is a data field mismatch, not a cell defect. The discrepancy does not affect charging behaviour or discharge performance — the SMBus charge controller operates on measured voltage, not the EEPROM Wh field.

Frequently Asked Questions

Dell battery meter shows 0% or "unknown" immediately after fitting the new cell — is the battery dead?

No. The fuel gauge IC on the Vostro 1400 loses its reference point when the old cell is removed. It reads 0% or unknown until it completes one full cycle against the new cell's chemistry. Plug into AC, let it charge uninterrupted to 100%, then discharge to hibernate cutoff. After that first full cycle the meter reads correctly.

Charge stopped at 80% and won't go higher — is the new battery faulty?

This is a BIOS-controlled charge limit, not a cell fault. Dell's ExpressCharge or battery longevity firmware on some Vostro 1400 units caps charging at 80% by default. Open Dell Power Manager, navigate to Battery Settings, and set the charge mode to "Primarily AC" or "Maximum Charge" — the limit lifts immediately and the cell will charge to 100%.

BIOS health check shows "poor" or "replace" on a brand-new cell right after install — what's causing it?

The Dell BIOS pulls health status from EEPROM data carried over from the previous battery's charge history. A freshly fitted cell has no learned data, so the BIOS flags it as degraded until a learn cycle is complete. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without interruption. After that single calibration cycle the BIOS rewrites the health field and the warning clears.
