Dopod P100 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (GALA160)

The GALA160 is a 3.7V 1100mAh Li-ion cell for the Dopod P100 Pocket PC. This PDA ran Windows Mobile and stored active application state in RAM — the main battery powers that RAM directly. When the original cell degrades below a usable threshold, the device loses standby time fast and starts dropping unsaved data.

  • P100 platform fit: The P100 uses a compact 51.54 x 38.98 x 6.64mm cell with a connector and BMS handshake matched to the GALA160 spec. No other cell format in this voltage class fits the bay without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the P100 platform. The BMS engaged correctly at both the low-voltage cutoff and the charge termination point, with no false cutoffs during the test sequence.
  • Sync before you swap: The P100 holds open files and app state in volatile RAM. That RAM loses power the moment the battery leaves the bay. Sync everything to your host machine before pulling the cell — there is no battery-backed retention once the circuit breaks.

Why the P100 loses contacts, calendar entries, or app data after a battery swap

Windows Mobile PDAs of this generation kept all working data — open contacts, unsaved notes, application state — in SRAM powered continuously by the main battery. There was no flash-backed storage buffer for that layer of memory. The instant the old cell is removed and before the new one seats, that SRAM loses power and clears. A full ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center sync to a PC before the swap is the only way to protect that data. After installing the new cell, restore from that sync.

A fresh cell shipped in storage state may sit at or below 3.0V — too low for the P100's boot sequence to complete. The device appears dead or freezes at the splash screen because the processor voltage rail cannot stabilise. Connect the P100 to its charger before attempting a first boot and leave it for at least 20 minutes. Once the cell reaches approximately 3.6V, the boot sequence will complete normally.

My P100 lost all my contacts and calendar after I swapped the battery — is the data gone for good?

It depends on whether you had synced recently. The P100 stores active data in SRAM that is powered directly by the battery — the moment the old cell leaves the bay, that memory clears. If you ran an ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center sync before the swap, your data is sitting safely on the host PC and restores on the next connection. If you did not sync first, recovery tools for Windows Mobile SRAM loss rarely succeed — treat it as lost and restore from your most recent backup.

New battery installed but the P100 won't boot — just a blank screen or it freezes on the logo.

A cell shipped in storage state can arrive below 3.0V, and the P100 needs a stable voltage rail to complete its boot sequence. At that low voltage the processor stalls, which shows up as a blank screen or a logo freeze. Connect the device to its charger without attempting to power it on, and leave it for 20 minutes. Once the cell climbs to around 3.6V, the boot will complete on the next power button press.

My P100's wireless sync keeps dropping or running slower than it did with the old battery — why?

The wireless radio in the P100 draws a spike of current during transmission that a degraded or partially charged cell cannot sustain cleanly — voltage sags under the load and the radio resets or throttles. This can also happen with a new cell that has not yet been fully charged. Charge the P100 to 100% before running a sync session and confirm the charge indicator shows full. If drops continue at full charge, check that the charging contact pins on the device are clean and making firm contact.
