Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Dopod S700 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (JADE160)
This is a 3.7V, 2200mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the original JADE160 battery in the Dopod S700 Windows Mobile smartphone. It also cross-references as 35H00118-00M and BA S330. If your S700 won't hold a charge, shuts down unexpectedly, or won't power on after sitting in storage, this cell addresses each of those failure points.
- S700 fit confirmation: The S700 uses a dedicated battery bay sized for the JADE160 footprint — 51.76 × 37.14 × 10.83mm. The connector and contact rail match the original layout, so the phone's charge IC communicates with the cell without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the S700 platform. The BMS held cutoff at the correct low-voltage threshold and accepted charge from the S700's onboard charge controller without triggering protection lockout.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, run one full discharge down to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before heavy use. The S700's fuel gauge IC is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve — one full cycle resets it against the new cell's actual capacity.
Why the S700 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The S700 uses a fuel gauge IC that tracks charge by measuring voltage and current against a stored discharge curve from the original cell. A new cell has a different internal impedance profile, so the gauge reads against the wrong curve and reports inaccurate percentages. This shows up as the indicator jumping several percent in either direction or stalling at a fixed value. One complete discharge-to-shutdown followed by an uninterrupted full charge resets the coulomb counter and aligns the gauge to the new cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the cell voltage drops sharply under load — the screen backlight, radio, and processor all draw simultaneously, pulling the cell below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. On mid-2000s Windows Mobile devices, the modem radio is a particular spike load during calls or data sync. The phone interprets this voltage cliff as a fault and cuts power instantly. Charge the battery fully, then check that the shutdown threshold matches — if it recurs consistently at the same percentage, run another full calibration cycle to 3.7V nominal.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Dopod S700 won't turn on at all after the battery sat in a drawer for months — is the cell dead?
Most likely the cell discharged below 2.5V during storage, which triggers BMS lockout to prevent damage. Connect the S700 to its charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without attempting to power it on — the charge IC needs time to trickle current into the cell before the BMS will re-engage. If the charge indicator light comes on, the cell is recovering. If nothing happens after an hour on charge, the cell has reached 0V and the BMS cannot recover it.
The battery percentage on my S700 jumps around erratically — 60%, then 45%, then back to 55% within minutes.
This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against the new cell's discharge curve. The original curve stored in the IC no longer matches the replacement cell's impedance profile, so the percentage estimate oscillates. Run one full discharge — use the phone normally until it shuts itself off — then charge straight to 100% without interruption. After that single cycle the coulomb counter resets and the readings stabilise.
The S700 feels warm near the battery compartment while charging the new cell — is that normal?
A new Li-ion cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a worn-in cell, so the charge IC works harder in the first few cycles and generates more heat. This is normal for the first two to three charges and reduces as the cell beds in. If the device becomes hot to the touch rather than just warm, disconnect it and let it cool — then check that the charge voltage isn't exceeding 4.2V per cell, which is the correct ceiling for this chemistry.
