Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dual-Lite EV2D Series — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (784H69)

This is a 2.4V 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Dual-Lite EV2D, EV2DI, EV2DI-24K, and EV4D emergency lighting units. It slots into the battery compartment of these commercial emergency lighting fixtures and restores the backup power function required for building safety code compliance. Capacity is 4.8Wh, matching the original cell specification.

  • EV2D and EV4D platform compatibility: These models share the same 2.4V two-cell NiMH configuration, connector pitch, and charge controller float voltage. The same cell pack works across the series because the onboard charge circuit targets the same 2.8–2.9V float range and uses the same thermistor-based overcharge cutoff.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge acceptance, float stabilisation, and load discharge on the EV2D charge board. The BMS accepted the new cell without fault flagging, and float voltage settled within spec at the controller output terminals.
  • Post-installation test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This forces a complete discharge-recharge cycle, allowing the charge controller to register the new cell's capacity before any scheduled compliance inspection.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed NiMH cell ships in a partially discharged state. The charge controller needs one full cycle to calibrate to the new cell's capacity curve. Until that cycle completes, the cell may not deliver full rated capacity under load, causing the light to drop out before the test duration ends. Run one complete manual test cycle — full discharge under load, then a full 24-hour recharge — before any compliance test.

Charge indicator staying red after confirmed good installation

Some EV2D units latch a fault condition in the charge controller when the battery is disconnected, even briefly. After fitting the new cell, the controller may still hold the fault state regardless of actual cell voltage. On most EV2D fittings, a manual reset is required — disconnect mains power for 30 seconds, then reconnect. This forces the controller to re-read cell voltage from rest and clear the latched fault flag.

Frequently Asked Questions

The emergency light dims and cuts out after a few minutes during a test — is the new battery faulty?

Almost certainly not faulty. A NiMH cell shipped from storage has reduced available capacity on its first activation because it hasn't completed a full charge cycle under the EV2D's charge controller yet. The light dims because the cell voltage sags under load before it's been fully conditioned. Allow 24 hours on charge after installation, then run one full manual test cycle before drawing any conclusions about the cell.

The fitting still shows a fault LED after I've replaced the battery and confirmed the connections are solid — what's wrong?

The EV2D charge controller latches fault states independently of the battery condition. Replacing the cell doesn't automatically clear a stored fault. Disconnect mains power to the fitting for at least 30 seconds, then restore it — this resets the controller and forces it to re-read the new cell voltage from rest. If the fault LED clears after the reset and the cell is reading above 2.4V at rest, the installation is good.

Can the EV2D's charge board damage a new NiMH cell if the fitting has been running on a dead battery for a long time?

Yes, this is a real risk. When the original cell degrades to near-zero voltage, some charge controllers shift into a high-current recovery charge mode trying to resurrect it. If a new cell is installed and the controller doesn't exit that mode quickly, it can overcharge the fresh cell. Check that the new cell voltage reads at or above 2.4V before fitting — a cell above this threshold signals the controller to switch to normal float charge immediately rather than staying in recovery mode.
