Fits Dyson DC-16, D12, DC16 Animal, DC16 Root 6 and six additional cordless models using BP-01 battery packs.
22.2V, 1400mAh lithium-ion cell delivers consistent motor voltage under sustained suction load on hard floors and carpet.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a locking tab that seats flush against the motor housing.
We bench-tested this cell on a DC-16 motor load — BMS accepted the pack, discharged linearly, and held voltage under restricted filter conditions.
Do not leave this battery on the charging dock when fully charged; continuous trickle charging degrades the cell capacity faster than periodic dock removal.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dyson DC-16 / DC16 Animal — 22.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-01)

This 22.2V 1400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original BP-01 pack in the Dyson DC-16 cordless handheld vacuum. It fits the DC-16, DC16 Animal, DC16 Root 6, and D12 Cordless Vacuum variants. Voltage and cell count match the original specification exactly.

  • DC-16 variant compatibility: The DC-16 Animal, Root 6, and D12 share the same 22.2V six-cell architecture and BP-01 connector. All variants draw through the same BMS handshake, so one pack covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack under sustained motor load across multiple cycles. The BMS held the cutoff threshold at the correct undervoltage point and did not trip on normal motor start draw.
  • Dock charging behaviour on the DC-16: Do not leave the DC-16 sitting on the wall dock permanently. Continuous trickle charging accelerates cell degradation on this pack faster than charge-and-remove cycles. Charge to full, then pull the vacuum from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The DC-16 motor draws significantly more current when the filter is partially blocked. That elevated draw causes voltage to sag under load even when the pack still reads above the low-battery threshold. The motor slows, suction falls, but the LED indicator shows charge remaining. Clean or replace the filter first — if suction restores immediately, the pack is fine. If sag continues on a clean filter, the pack's internal resistance has risen and replacement is needed.

Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. It happens when sustained restricted airflow forces the motor to pull above the pack's rated discharge current. The BMS cuts output to protect the cells, then resets once current demand drops. Check the filter and cyclone inlet for blockages before assuming the battery is the cause. If the motor cuts out on a clear filter, verify the pack resting voltage sits at or above 22.2V before charging.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DC-16 has a new battery but the charger light never turns green — it just stays red or flashes. What's wrong?

The DC-16 charger expects a BMS handshake before it enters full charge mode. If the replacement pack's BMS does not respond within the expected window, the charger holds in fault mode. Disconnect the pack, wait 60 seconds, and reconnect — this resets the handshake sequence on most aftermarket packs. If the fault persists, measure the pack's resting voltage at the terminals; it should read between 18V and 22.2V before the charger will accept it.

The DC-16 runs fine for a short burst then suction drops noticeably, even though the battery is fully charged. Could a blocked filter cause this?

Yes — a partially blocked filter is the most common cause of early suction drop on a full charge. The restricted airflow forces the motor to work harder, pulling more current than the pack is rated to deliver continuously, which causes voltage sag and reduced motor speed. Remove and tap out the filter, then retest. If suction holds steady on a clean filter but still drops on a dirty one, the filter needs replacement, not the battery.

My original DC-16 battery degraded fast — I only got about a year before capacity fell off sharply. Will the same happen with this replacement?

Fast capacity fade on the DC-16 is almost always caused by leaving the vacuum on the wall dock between uses. The charger does not fully cut off when the pack reaches 100%, so the cells sit under low-level charge stress continuously. Charge the replacement pack fully, then remove it from the dock and store the vacuum off-charge. Cycling the pack properly — charge when depleted, remove when full — is the single biggest factor in how long it holds capacity.
