Fits Dyson DC31, DC34, DC35, DC44 cordless handheld vacuum. Replaces OEM part numbers 17083-2811, 18172-01-04, 17083-4211, 18172-0201, 917083-03, 917083-05, 17083-5010, 17083-3009.
22.2V lithium-ion cell delivers 2000mAh capacity for consistent motor voltage under dust and debris load.
Connector slides vertically into the battery slot with a single locking tab at the base.
Bench testing showed clean BMS handshake on insertion; no fault codes on first charge cycle.
Do not leave this cell on the charging dock after reaching full charge — continuous dock trickle degrades Dyson Li-ion capacity faster than periodic charge cycles.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dyson DC31 / DC35 / DC44 Series — 22.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery (17083-2811)

This is a 22.2V, 2000mAh lithium-ion battery for Dyson DC31, DC34, DC35, and DC44 cordless handheld and stick vacuums. It replaces OEM part numbers 17083-2811, 18172-01-04, 17083-4211, 18172-0201, 917083-03, 917083-05, 17083-5010, and 17083-3009. Capacity is 44.4Wh, matching the original cell specification.

  • DC31, DC34, DC35, DC44 compatibility: These models share the same 22.2V battery rail, connector housing, and BMS communication protocol. One cell pack covers all four platforms without modification to the battery bay or charge contacts.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a DC35 unit. The BMS accepted the Dyson charger handshake on first connection, cell balancing engaged correctly across all six cells, and overcurrent protection triggered as expected under a simulated blockage event.
  • Dock charging habit on DC31 and DC35: Do not leave these vacuums sitting on the charging dock indefinitely. Continuous dock charging applies a low trickle current that degrades cell capacity faster than cycling the pack normally. Charge to full, then remove from the dock until the next use.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The DC31 and DC35 motors draw significantly more current when airflow is restricted — a partially blocked filter can push draw well above the BMS's sustained-current threshold. The BMS responds by reducing power delivery to protect the cells, which the user experiences as suction loss even with charge remaining. This is not a battery fault. Clean or replace the filter and the motor will return to full draw at the same state of charge.

Motor cuts out mid-use and then recovers after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a failing battery. When the motor encounters sustained restriction — a blocked nozzle, a clogged cyclone, or a choked filter — current spikes beyond the pack's trip threshold and the BMS shuts output. After 30–60 seconds the BMS resets and power returns. Clear the blockage before the next run. If trips continue on an unblocked machine, charge the pack to full (22.2V at the terminals) and retest — a partially discharged cell can lower the trip threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

My DC35 loses suction halfway through a clean but the battery light still shows full — is the battery faulty?

Not necessarily — this pattern usually points to a restricted filter forcing the motor to overdraw, which triggers the BMS to reduce power delivery before the pack is depleted. Remove and tap out the filter, or wash it if it's a washable type, and retest. If suction holds steady after cleaning the filter, the battery is fine. If suction still drops on a clear filter, charge the pack fully and check that terminal voltage reads at or above 22.2V before use.

The motor on my DC31 cuts out for about a minute then starts again on its own — what's causing that?

That restart pattern is a BMS overcurrent trip resetting itself. The motor hit a sustained current spike — usually from a blocked nozzle or a clogged cyclone — and the BMS cut output to protect the cells. Check the nozzle, wand, and cyclone for blockages before the next run. If it trips again on a fully clear machine, the pack may be partially discharged and running with a reduced trip threshold — put it on charge first and confirm a full charge before use.

My DC35 battery seems to hold less charge than it used to — I leave it on the dock between uses. Could that be the cause?

Yes — continuous dock charging is one of the fastest ways to degrade cell capacity on these Dyson packs. The charger applies a low trickle current whenever the pack drops slightly below full, and repeated trickle cycles compress the usable capacity over weeks. Remove the vacuum from the dock once charging is complete and only return it when the pack is depleted. With a fresh replacement cell, following that habit from day one will keep capacity from fading prematurely.
