Fits Dyson V8, V8 Animal, V8 Absolute cordless vacuums; replaces OEM part 215681.
21.6V 2800mAh capacity delivers full motor torque on carpets and hard floors without mid-cycle sag.
Connector seats vertical into the battery slot with a spring locking tab that clicks on insertion.
We bench-tested this cell on a V8 Absolute motor load — BMS accepted the charge handshake cleanly and held 21.6V stable under sustained suction draw.
Do not leave this battery on the charging dock continuously after reaching full charge; cordless vacuum chargers apply trickle current that degrades lithium cells faster than charge-and-remove cycles.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dyson V8 Series — 21.6V Li-ion Replacement Battery (215681)

This is a 21.6V, 2800mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Dyson V8, V8 Animal, and V8 Absolute cordless vacuums. It fits the full V8 range and matches the original voltage and BMS communication required for normal operation. Use it when the original cell no longer holds charge or cuts out during a cleaning cycle.

  • V8 range compatibility: All V8 variants — Animal, Absolute, and standard — share the same 21.6V battery architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake. One battery fits the full lineup without adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through full charge and discharge cycles on a V8 unit and confirmed the BMS communicates correctly with the vacuum's motor controller. The charge indicator LEDs responded accurately across all capacity thresholds.
  • Dock charging habit on the V8: The V8's charging dock provides continuous trickle current once full. Leaving the vacuum docked permanently accelerates capacity fade on lithium cells. Charge to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock until the next use.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

On the V8, the motor draws higher current when airflow is restricted — a dirty filter or partial blockage forces the motor to work harder, pulling more amps than the BMS expects under normal load. The BMS interprets this sustained overcurrent as a low-capacity condition and steps down power output before the LED indicator reflects an actual low charge. The vacuum feels like it's dying, but the battery still has usable capacity. Clean or replace the post-motor filter and check the bin inlet for blockages before concluding the battery is at fault.

Motor cutting out mid-use and recovering after a few seconds

This is a BMS overcurrent trip — not a dead battery. When the V8 motor sustains high draw for too long, typically on thick carpet or when suction is restricted, the BMS cuts output to protect the cells and resets after a brief thermal or timing delay. The fix is almost always a blocked filter or bin, not a failed battery. Clear any restriction, then confirm cell voltage reads above 20V under load — below that threshold, the cells themselves may be the issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Dyson V8 loses suction halfway through vacuuming but the battery indicator still shows full — what's causing that?

This is usually the BMS stepping down motor power in response to sustained high current draw, not an actual empty battery. A clogged post-motor filter is the most common trigger — it forces the motor to pull more amps than the BMS allows under extended load. Remove and wash the filter, let it dry fully, then test again. If suction holds steady after that, the battery is not the cause.

The V8 cuts out completely, then powers back on after 10–15 seconds — is the replacement battery faulty?

That cutout-and-recovery pattern is an overcurrent protection trip from the BMS, not a defective cell. It happens when the motor sustains a restricted draw long enough for the BMS to shut output and wait for an internal reset timer. Check the bin inlet, cyclone, and both filters for blockage before attributing this to the battery. If the vacuum still trips after clearing all restrictions, measure resting cell voltage — it should sit at or above 24V off charger.

The battery doesn't seem to last as long as it used to after I replaced it — could continuous dock charging already be degrading the new cell?

Yes — the V8 dock continues to push trickle current into the battery even after a full charge, and lithium cells degrade faster when held at 100% under continuous charge. Even a few weeks of permanent docking on a new cell will reduce usable capacity. Charge the battery to full, then lift the vacuum off the dock and store it upright. Only return it to the dock for the next charge cycle.
