New arrival
Sale priceFrom $77.99 USD Regular price $95.99
Shipping calculated at checkout.
Fits Vax Air Cordless Switch AC21 and H85 models; replaces OEM battery for both units.
20V and 2000mAh capacity delivers consistent motor torque on carpets and hard floors without voltage sag.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a locking tab; verify the tab seats flush before operation.
We bench tested the cell on a motor load rig; BMS engaged at 15A draw, no early cutoff observed.
Do not leave this battery on the charging dock continuously — Vax dock chargers apply trickle charge that degrades capacity over weeks; charge to full and remove immediately.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vax Air Cordless Switch AC21 / H85 — 20V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 20V 2000mAh (40Wh) lithium-ion battery fits the Vax Air Cordless Switch AC21 and Air Cordless Switch H85 stick vacuums. It slots into the same battery bay as the original and connects to the same discharge contacts. Voltage and capacity match the factory specification exactly.

  • AC21 and H85 shared platform: Both models run from the same 20V battery bay with identical contact layout and BMS communication protocol. One battery works across either unit without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the AC21 platform. The BMS handshake completed correctly, protection circuits tripped at the expected undervoltage threshold, and the charger accepted the pack without fault codes.
  • Dock charging habit on the AC21: Remove the battery from the charging dock once the indicator shows full. The AC21 dock does not cut trickle current completely — leaving the pack on charge continuously accelerates capacity fade faster than normal cycling alone.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The AC21 motor draws significantly more current when airflow is restricted — a partially blocked filter can push draw well above rated levels. The BMS responds by reducing available current before the LED indicator registers low, which reads as a suction drop rather than a battery warning. This is a protection response, not cell failure. Clean or replace the filter and the motor returns to full draw immediately.

Motor cuts out mid-clean then recovers after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a failing cell. Sustained restricted airflow — from a clogged filter or blocked nozzle — forces the motor to pull above the pack's continuous current limit. The BMS opens the discharge circuit to protect the cells, then resets once temperature and current drop. Check the filter and clear any blockage at the nozzle before concluding the battery is at fault. If the pack voltage reads above 18V after recovery, the cells are intact.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Vax AC21 loses suction halfway through a clean but the battery light still shows full — why?

A restricted filter is the most likely cause. When airflow is blocked, the AC21 motor pulls more current than rated to maintain suction, and the BMS reduces output before the LED indicator catches up — so you see suction loss, not a low-battery warning. Remove, tap out, and rinse the filter, then allow it to dry fully before reinserting. If suction returns to normal after that, the battery is not the issue.

The vacuum motor cuts out for 30 seconds then works again — is the battery dead?

Not necessarily. This is the BMS tripping on overcurrent, which happens when the motor is forced to work against a sustained blockage — check the filter and the nozzle for debris first. The pack resets itself once current and heat drop back below the protection threshold. Put the battery on charge and check the resting voltage after a full cycle — if it charges to 20V and holds, the cells are healthy.

My replacement battery started losing charge much faster after a few weeks — what caused that?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of early capacity fade on the AC21 platform. The dock does not fully cut trickle current when the pack reaches 100%, so leaving it plugged in permanently stresses the cells over time. Charge the battery only when depleted, then remove it from the dock once the indicator shows full. Cycling the pack down to around 30% before recharging will slow further degradation.
